What blade for my daughter, 7 years old
« on: October 24, 2022, 04:26:50 PM »
First, sorry for my english.
I am from switzerland and my english is not very good.
I translate with an app.

Our daughter is 7 years old and weighs about 20kg /44Ibs.
She currently does single jumps and various spins.
And also different steps and turns.
She is currently 5h per week on the ice.
Now her figure skate will soon be too small.
She will then probably change to the Edea Overture.
But we are not sure about the blades.
She is currently skating with an MK 21.

I do not know if we should choose a 7’ Rocker.
So Ultima Lagacy Lite 7’ or John Wilson Coronation Ace or MK Professional.

Or go straight for an 8’ rocker? So the Ultima Lagacy Lite 8‘.
Or an other 8‘ blade?
It should be mentioned that the normal spins is still a problem for her. She loses her balance to some extent.
She doesn't always find her center.
With the sit-spins it works much better.
She is very agile and can turn well.
Now she has an blade MK 21.

Therefore I don't know if a skate with 8’ rocker is good for her because of the effort with the spins.
And she will also have trouble with the turns.
On the other hand, she would already be used to an 8’ rocker and would not have to get used to it later.

As I have read, the spin rocker is also important for the spins.

Or do you have another suggestion for the blades?

Thank you very mutch for your help.

At 7 years old and such a small size, I'd suggest keeping her in either Coronation Ace or MK Pro blades. Both are 7' rockers and ideal for her level. As a bonus, they are less expensive than most quality 8' blades.

After years of skating, I switched from a 7' (Coronation Ace) to an 8' rocker (Pattern 99) without much trouble at all. For her, the time will come for that, but not right now.

The Legacy blade has limited curvature at the front, so I would not recommend it.  It will be easier to spin on a blade with more of a spin rocker.  Lately I have seen some strange manufacturing changes to the Coronation Ace blades that make them more difficult to sharpen, so the MK Pro might be a better choice.

I'd be interested in what changes you've seen.  Thanks.
