Yu-Na Kim's Going to California
« on: September 07, 2010, 01:38:42 PM »
When the Yu-Na : Orser split happened, I had this wierd thought that Yu-Na might end up at the Kwan family's training center.  Looks like my crystal ball was working that night.   &)  (Shoulda bought a lottery ticket, lol.)

Kim’s management agency AT Sports says that the 20-year-old South Korean is training at the East West Ice Palace in Artesia in the outskirts of Los Angeles.

Yeah, they parted not-so-amicably.  It's really sort of sad, the way it ended with he-said/she-said press conferences.

Brian Orser is a wonderful, classy, intelligent man who really cares about skaters. My kid has had the pleasure of working with him in the past ...  It's a shame it all got into a mess/confusion/controversy. I hope they both move on and move past this and go on to further success.

I met him at a coaches' conference and thought he was a really nice guy, very smart, but most of all, FUNNY!

You could see the joy and pride in him when he spoke about Yu-Na, which is why the split was sad.

I also wish them both good luck with their futures.  Hopefully, they'll be able to reconcile and not hold grudges.

Yu-Na's new coach is Peter Oppegard, Karen Kwan's husband.  That explains the East-West Artesia connection.  (I thought that would be the announcement.)

Too obvious!

As for the split, her "management agency" (aka her mother, now) did a terrible job.  Brian didn't move forward effectively from it, either
