1.  Get new Harlicks to replace my 10 year old ones, with custom orthotics.
2.  Pass Silver Free Skate.
3.  Improve layback and back camel spins.  And, my front camel catch foot to more revolutions
4.  Axel.   Close, but no cigar yet.
5.  Be consistent with off-ice workouts and eating well.
6.  Not give my coach so much anxiety 2 weeks before competition when I suddenly lose skating ability (but gain it back the day of competition).
7.  Remain injury free so I can go to Sectionals and Nationals.

1. Senior Moves
2. Senior Moves
3. Senior Moves

If I do just this I'll be very happy!

Everything else:

4. Test my first 2 pre-gold dances
5. Work on jump combinations for next freeskate test
6. Increase flexibility in spins

Could've sworn I did one of these for 2016 but couldn't find.

For 2017:

Pass:
1. Pre-bronze freestyle (maybe March)
2. Bronze MITF

3.  Learn to "really" spin (I have a reward out for the coach who can teach me to really do this.  I have a feeling my coach is up for the challenge.  We just really started working on this after the moves test but I've had some injuries and been off-ice more than on since that test.)
4.  Consistently stretch and improve my flexibility and off-ice conditioning.
5.  Get "really" comfortable with my right outside edge, especially backward.  (This is an ongoing issue and could be a combination of me, skates, blades, who knows.... grr.)

When you find this mythical coach that can teach spinning to the unteachable, please let me know. I've been trying to learn for approximately 14 years now.  88)

Will do!  I'm very hopeful.  My coach has taught me quite a few things so far that others couldn't get me to understand to do.

Starting in 2017, I'll be coming back to skating from an almost 10 year break.  :o

SO, my resolutions for skating in 2017 are all based on getting my legs back, getting back, and getting back into skating for the pure love of it. I don't think I've ever loved something (and I've tried everything) like I've loved skating. I skated as a kid semi-seriously, though I never tested or competed. It was for fun but more than that, if that makes sense. I had most of my doubles consistently before I had to stop skating due to problems with pain in my feet. Turns out, I was wearing the wrong size and width skates all along and really would have been better off in customs, but as I wasn't a competing/testing skater, couldn't justify the cost. I skated through the pain until I couldn't. I hoping the Edea's I just purchased (used) will be a step in the right direction for me.

So, my goals will be small for this next year. Like I said, fitness is the first goal. I want to get back in skating-shape and I'd like to have the spins and moves that I had when I stopped skating decently by the end of 2017. For jumping, I think I'll see how it goes. I think the singles will come back nicely, perhaps a few of the doubles too. Heck, maybe I'll test and compete at the adult competitions. It looks like so much fun.

Happy skating you guys!  ;D

OK, here we go...

1 a.  Skate more in 2017 than I did in 2016 (~184 hrs, 3.6 hrs/week).  Aim for average of 4 hrs/week
1 b.  Spent at least 1/3 of practice time on backward skills
2 a.  Pass Basic 4/Adult 4
2 b.  Pass Basic 5/Adult 5/Beta
3 a.  Off ice training- XBX or other circuit training and stretching 4-5 days/week
3 b.  Off ice training- lunge/spiral/shoot-the-duck/spin positions (100 day challenges)
4 a.  Basic skills competition
4 b.  Holiday show or other performance
5.  Stop whining about my skates, the ice, my ability, etc. and Just Skate!

1. Get at least two revolutions on a back spin (scratch, sit, whatever, I don't care)
2. Land a fully-rotated loop jump on one foot
3a. Back inside three turns on both feet
3b. If 3a accomplished in time, test and pass Silver moves
4. Do a clean (figure) loop in any direction/on any edge without having to put the other foot down
5. Learn more interesting footwork, turns, half-jumps, etc. for use in programs

1. Pass Fiesta Tango.
2. Pass Bronze dances.
3. Pass solo Juvenile free dance test.
4. Compete solo dance at the Juvenile level.
5. Start Pre-Silver dances.
6. Pass pre-juv moves. Possibly juv as well.
7. Get dance boots and blades.
8. Work on figures. If 7 works, out, I'd like to convert my freestyle boots into figure boots.
9. Do monthly exercise challenges at least 6/12 months.
10. Improve footwork and speed.
11. Get a better back camel and back sit. And front sit for that matter.

I think my goals are more reachable this year. And I think 2017 will be the year of dance. We'll see if I continue doing freestyle.

I've just returned to skating after a few years off, so here are my shiny new resolutions!

1. Find a coach at my new rink
2. Work on the things I'm BAD at more than the things I'm GOOD at (I'm looking at you, sit spin)
3. Develop my posture, arms and general presence on the ice
4. Re-discover all my doubles
5. Begin testing and competing again

Well this is a good idea. Since I'm just getting back into skating mine are pretty simple:

1. Find a Club/Coach that I can get back into Skating at (DONE! <3)

2. Rediscover my love of the sport. I may have changed mentally but the weeks leading up to my lessons have been some of the happiest I've been in a while.

3. Get a good fitting pair of skates. The used ones I picked up are definitely NOT the best fitting.

4. Use skating as a tool to work through my anxiety and improve it this year.

5. Find somewhere that sells actual cool figure skating pants for men. Because seriously...black is so boring.

@sam - rather than look at skate shops for pants, have you considered checking sites like Nike for fitted pants? They may have some of the "cool" designs you desire.

I never actually thought to give that a try! We actually have a local nike store as well. I'll go check them out. Thanks for the idea ^_^

Better late than never...
  • MITF through pre-juv
  • Freeskate pre-prelim
  • hit 4 revs on twizzles in both directions
  • stable and consistent backspin
  • start and keep an off-ice conditioning routine
  • delusions of grandeur: find a partner and start up ice dance again
  • optional: switch to a less crappy club
Nothing to it but to do it. 8)
