2016 SMART Skating Goals
« on: December 19, 2015, 10:02:41 PM »
Eva over at EVA BAKES reminded me about SMART Goals.
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound
My weight loss goals book recommends not only setting annual goals but monthly and quarterly goals. So rather than just looking at the end of 2016 I'm going to post my annual goals, and my quarterly goals. To support my quarterly goals I'll have monthly goals to support them.

Here's my first quarter goal: Be able to do BO3--that's specific and Time Bound. It's measurable Achievable and Realistic.
My monthly goals are to practice my BO3 entrance and exit exercises my coach has given me 5 minutes a session.
My Realistic part of this goal is to focus on one thing for 5 minutes, rather than just doing it a few times when I feel like it.

Having written this one down, I plan to go to my blog and revise my other goals so that I can better plan my achievments.

My weight loss goal book also says not to focus everything on diet and exercise. You should also have a goal out side those items that support them, for example take a cooking class.

My outside goal for skating the first quarter is to do XBX every day even when I don't have company to do that. And this includes doing XBX before I skate.

I don't know if anyone else wants to try this out, but I think it's an achievable approach.

XBX is a 10 exercise program I use for warm ups. The regular program has standing and lying exercises. I modified it to be all standing.

The equivalent exercise programme for men was called 5BX. I did XBX way back when I was a teenager, am inspired to wonder if I can find the booklet. ;)
Especially now it has been adapted so I dont have to lie on the floor. Not sure if I want to do it with my  :WS: on. Any particular reason for that Agnes Nitt? Convenience?

I've seen the 5BX program. I think JAson Brown could do the top level, but not many others.

Even though XBX was designed for women, it makes a good warmup for anyone, male or female.

I do it in boots because otherwise people come up and talk to me and I never get finished before the ice opens. Also, the additional weight is good.

I had a first quarter goal which was to do all the pivots. That's 8. I've got 3 so far. Both FI, and right BI.

Those things really, really hurt my thighs and I have no idea why.

How do you define being able to do them?  Certain number of revolutions?

Good question. Let's say 3 revolutions without getting stuck. Smooth motion.

Like I say, these things kill my upper legs.

And toes, Dear God my toes, even though I just clipped my nails.

Makes sense.  I can manage a right FI pivot for three revolutions, but it isn't pretty.  The other sideā€¦ one to one and a half, at best.  Yeah, it's hard on the thighs.
