Should I get a gel pad?
« on: April 09, 2014, 06:53:41 PM »
Hello!
So as I started to skate in my new boots, it started to hurt badly.
My left foot is okay, but my right foot ankle part (or little above?) started to bleed.
So I tried bandage+cosmetic pads but it still hurts...
I attached a picture of the part that hurts.. (FYI)
So I googled gel pad and found Bunga pad (this one: http://www.bungapads.com/bunga-ankle-sleeve-as.html)
But I'm not sure if it's going to fix my problems....
Any suggestions?

I bought the same Bunga pad, and it was to fix a different problem from yours, but if the bleeding is from too much friction then I think the Bunga pad will fix it.  It feels a bit like thick cushioned rubber, by the way, if that helps you decide...

I had bleeding in the same spot on one ankle (funny enough, my other ankle was fine) and a Bunga pad worked perfectly.

Definitely get the gel sleeves!  I can't skate without mine- I get rubbing, bleeding and blisters.
I see a lot of people wearing them over socks or tights, but I wear mine over bare skin (according to the instructions).  They work wonderfully!

I've worn them both ways, for the most part now I just wear them over my tights because it's more convenient - and I haven't noticed much difference in performance/feel either way.

I have tried them over the socks and still had a lot of painful rubbing.  Bare skin is the only way that works for me personally.

(UPDATE)

I ordered them and tried it for the first time during my lesson.
I ordered two, but I only wore them on my right foot this time.
First I thought it wasn't that think but was surprised by how effective it was.
I felt almost no pain on my problem area!!
My coach recommended me to wear them on both feet though.
I tried them on first and than had my socks on and it was fine :)
Thank you all for your comments. I think it was a good decision :)

Glad to hear you like them!!  Makes such a difference when you don't have to deal with the pain!
