Skating Library?
« on: April 07, 2013, 11:27:01 AM »
I currently have Dorothee Hamill's biography on the nightstand.
Somewhere I got a 'how--to' book in the abyss of my personal book collection.

What do you read when skating is not in the cards?

It would be neat for clubs to have a library of books and videos for members to look at.

I enjoyed "All the Sundays Yet to Come" by Kathryn Bertine, though I found her non-skating related book to be even better.

I didn't like that book, but i don't remember why.  I think I still have it on a shelf somewhere.  I should donate it to the library.  I've found that our library has a good number of skating-related books and videos.  I use the online reservation system.  (Whispers: I regularly reserve the "Complete Book of Figure Skating" so that it stays in circulation.)

I believe the Skating Club of Boston has a skating library, although they might not lend the books.  You might have to read them on site only.

Was it because she was kind of whiny?  She was, very.  But it sounds like her pro skating experience was not good- she has since said a few times that competitive skating is about athleticism, pro skating is about being the right size to fit in the costume, and the skills don't matter.

I would probably have to buy the books, since my library is somewhat restricted as it is, and, well, skating isn't really it around here. (I was majorly surprised to find Dorothee Hamill's book)

Now Bear Bryant, I bet I can check out a ton of books there....

Most skating books can be found used on Amazon.  Some are often priced so low ($0.01) that you basically just pay shipping.

Two that I really like are The Passion to Skate by Sandra Bezic and My Sergei.  I have Lucinda Ruh's book Frozen Teardrop that I've been meaning to start, but haven't gotten a chance to yet.
