Good to know about the pre-show!  I am definitely going, I already bought my ticket.  My coach saw it at Nationals and she advised me to bring tissues.

DH says I cry at supermarket grand openings, lol.  If you need sobbing mourners at a stranger's funeral, I'm your girl!
I'm bringing tissues to the theater, too!

And I can't use the "sorry I can't scorekeep the hockey games, I'm going to see a figure skating movie" excuse because they'd all just laugh in my face. I hope they release it on DVD or something.
I'm not accepting this as an excuse for you to miss the event!  If you had theater tickets, you'd take the night off.  Why is it any less important to miss a one-time event just because it's figureskating related?  If it were an event about the 1982 Dream Team, you can be sure they'd be going and I'm sure you wouldn't mock them.  Don't allow people to be disrespectful to you - this is an opportunity to educate them so they can act like men, not bratty little boys.

Thank you for the tissue idea!

I am confused about the pre-show. Is it for every theater or just NYC?

I am on the road and the theater showing this is less than a mile from my hotel! So I'm going.

Anyone from Dayton on the forums, I'll be the elderly lady with tissues.

I am confused about the pre-show. Is it for every theater or just NYC?

Here's the schedule for Rise, per the Special Projects Manager at the USFSA.  (Thanks, Julie!)

The pre-show begins at 7:30pm ET...the first 20 minutes will be rolling slides about USFS programs and trivia, the last 10 minutes (so beginning at 7:50pm ET) will be live from NYC.

The film begins at 8:00pm ET.

The live post-show begins at 9:15pm ET and will last 30 min.

Everything will end by 9:45pm ET.

That was clear and concise - be there or be square!

So for all theaters that play RISE, the excitement starts 30 minutes before the stated start time? E.g. in Chicago ticket says 7:00pm but slide shows likely will start 6:30pm? Thank you for the heads up Is8NYC!

That's correct.  I'm glad the woman at the USFSA (who must be under a deluge of messages) took the time to respond.

Now I just have to figure out how to get from the rink to the theater in time!  I have to teach until 6:15pm!

It's the big day!  Can't wait to see this tonight, I've always been curious about the Operas that they simulcast this way.  I'm meeting up with a bunch of skating friends from various rinks.

Nice video press piece on the Museum Exhibit opening and the wreath-laying ceremony:

Had a crisis at work yesterday, so I'm just catching up on some publicity events:

Evan, Tara and Sarah (that rhymes!) ring the closing bell at the NYSE on 2/15/2011:

It was a lot more fun to watch when the NYSE used a real bell instead of this electronic thing.  I'll bet the button is a dummy and everything's on a timer.

The Today Show had a short visit this morning and they hinted that a second showing in March might be scheduled.  That ticks me off.

Things that make me go hmmmm...

I just found out that some people only paid $10, but our tickets were $15.  I assumed it was just a different market issue.
Maybe the $10 seats don't get the pre-show?  Guess we'll find out tonight.

I just checked Fandango and the 8pm start time is struck out for my theater.  Hmmmm....

I talked to someone going to the same theater I am going to and when I mentioned the pre-show, she said the theater said it started at 8 and didn't mention anything about a pre-show.  I hope they have the pre-show!

I paid $15, also.  I thought it was supposed to be $15 everywhere, but I have heard of other markets being lower.  But I don't know why LA would be lower than Indiana...

The website (www.rise1961.com) says there will be another showing on March 7 at 7:30pm.  The website also doesn't say anything about a pre-show.

I don't have a Rise t-shirt.  Off to pull out the printer transfer sheets....

BTW, if you post a question on the Rise Facebook site, it may be asked live tonight.

I'd love to hear Frank Carroll tell another Maribel story.  He's so funny when he speaks off the cuff.

I wonder if the $10 ticket was a pre-sale price if you ordered through the USFSA?
I couldn't find the link on the day it was supposed to go live and then I forgot until after Nationals.

No biggie - I have to get there early anyway.  DH is bringing the kids so I can just go right there.  Worst case: we wait on line for good seats because the theater isn't open yet.  I can meet my co-coordinator and split up the exit cards on line.

No idea what will be included (pre- or post-wise) during the 3/7 showing.
It might only be in markets where they sold out the theater for tonight.  Have to wait and see.

I mentioned to my DD that, if you're going to buy tickets at the box office, look around and see if anyone has an extra that they're trying to sell.  Someone always finds themselves with an extra ticket because of last-minute changes, so you'd be doing a good deed.

I'm really excited.  Can you tell?

I am excited, too.  I can't go to the March 7 showing because I have class, but I would if I could.  I actually purposely did not schedule a class on Thursday night this semester so I would be able to go to this.

This just in - the USFSA added a "clarification" to their website, announcing tonight's start time:

Quote
2/17) - As a point of clarification, RISE premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT/8 p.m. PT. However, there is a 30-minute pre-show and a 30-minute post-show, so if you want to see the entire presentation, please plan to arrive at the theater at least a half-hour early and stay until an hour and 45 minutes after the start time printed on your ticket.
That was very clear and concise.

Fathom Event's site has a "Rise Encore" link on it now:  http://www.fathomevents.com/sports/event/riseencore.aspx
The recap reads:

Quote
The event will be broadcast to select movie theaters nationwide at 7:30 p.m. local time (Pre-show features will begin 30 minutes prior to the start of the event.)
I guess they're showing the same thing as tonight in its entirety.  So tonight's the live session, March 7th is all pre-recorded but you won't see anything different tonight than you would next month.  I don't understand the time comment though - tonight's 8pm ticket time begins at 7:30pm with a pre-show.  Does that mean next month's 7:30pm pre-show starts at 7pm?  (Eastern times)

$15 at my theater, and they don't know anything about a pre-show.  In fact, they have something scheduled right up until the pre-show is supposed to begin, so I doubt we're going to get to see that part.  Doesn't matter - I'm still looking forward to it!

IT WAS AWESOME!   Just the right mix of old footage, hilarious stories and explanation of the realities in the sport.  I didn't feel like we got the details on every one of the lost team members/coaches, but they said that the DVD coming out this Fall will include stories and video footage that didn't make it to the big screen.  DH has already said "You are buying the DVD."  He wants to see himself in the Nationals footage, lol.

Hamilton was a little choked up throughout the recorded interview footage - he revealed that he had just found out that his brain tumor had returned when they recorded.  He says he's okay now.  Fleming, Hamill and Kwan looked fantastic and were well-spoken, as always.  Boitano played the boy wonder with charm, explaining what a different type of parental relationship he had compared to the other skaters.  Very interesting.

Felt wierd to know the show was live, but we were remote.  They couldn't hear us if we laughed or clapped, so few people bothered.
Theater was packed and a lot of people came in just as the slide show was ending, so I'm glad only a few people missed the live pre-show.

Peter Carruthers was a little high-strung, like he was told to show more energy.  There was a woman commentator that I've never heard of - she was okay, nothing spectacular.  Not impressive at all, but Matt Lauer was excellent as always.

Frank Carroll's remarks about the Owen trio were really poignant and funny, as I expected.  I didn't know that Ron Ludington was one of Maribel Vinson Owen's students.  I've heard him speak in the past about other topics, like IJS, and he's really a pull-no-punches kind of guy with a great sense of humor.  The stories he and Carroll told about Ludington's training with Owen were HILARIOUS!  They both made him out to be a regular Chris Bowman, snicker.  My kids thought that Carroll and Ludington were brothers, but they didn't get the fact that the Jenkins men were brothers, lol.  I didn't even bother to try and explain Carol Heiss-Jenkins' role in that triangle.

They interviewed Vera Wang live in NYC, asking about how it felt to contribute (via costume design) to these champions and she was exceedingly modest, deferring to the champions' hard work and determination.  Classy reply.  I know she's a fashion designer, but I never realized that she was so thin!  Pretty dress she was wearing, too.  Kwan and Hamill looked styling.  Fleming's dress had a long zipper down the front, but it didn't really fit her very well.  She looked uncomfortable when sitting on the couches.

Spoiler from the post-show interview between Matt Lauer and Dorothy Hamill:
They revealed that they attended the same Connecticut high school.  He said that he the biggest crush on her in school.  However, hat, if she had looked at him he probably would have passed out.  How sweet.
