Hi folks. Anybody know of a pair of pants with enough stretch in them to skate semi-comfortably (don't need to be doing any spirals or catch foot anything), slim and straight enough down to the cuffs so you won't catch a blade, yet not binding in the thigh...and also with a neat enough look to wear into work?
I'd like to be able to run away from the office during lunch times, throw on skates and practice for about 30 mins, then run back into work without losing precious time changing.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. :)

As long as they're a matte material, I would wear pretty much any black skate pant (oth models excepted, unless you can tuck them into a pair of boots during the day) as leggings under a tunic or even some of my dresses. Also, I'm a fan of just black tights, which can work under dresses as well. If you do that, bring a skirt to change into.
My yoga teacher wears legging-like pants under either baggy denim shorts (not so office appropriate though) or a denim skirt with chunky boots and looks pretty cute.

I love the look of those Dress Pant Yoga Pants!!! For now I'm thinking maybe the straight cut is the one I would get.
Will take a closer look when I get home and have more time to browse. Will also check out L.L Bean tonight.

I like the lululemon skinny groove pants - really easy to pull over skates and they look like a skinny pant. Would be ok for most casual /business casual workplaces paired with the right top

One day when I have money, my wardrobe is going to be full of those pants. Wow!
I used to have a really great black lycra pair that really looked businessy as well as being perfect for skating, but alas, they wore out and I've never found them again in the store.

Oh man. I plan on moving to NYC in the (Hopefully) near future where I will be commuting to the rink and then probably to coffee shops and such to work (yay freelancing). I would TOTALLY invest in a whole warddrobe of these pants when I hit my goal weight so I could easily transition from skating to working to home. Plus, they just look darn comfy and jeans and skater legs don't go together easily.

@davincisop - an early welcome! when you get to NYC - look into Sky Rink's adult Black Diamond summer Saturday program. I keep promoting this because it's amazing to have so much ice time/so few people in a place as densely packed as NYC. Usually less than half a dozen people for 3 hours total including off-ice class.

Lol! No actual "running" involved. More like driving quickly over to the rink. I can guarantee that I won't look any different than I normally look with my perpetually oily skin and shiny forehead. :)
In any case I have no worry about my heightened energy level being noticed. I'm looking forward to it!

Forgot to mention that I decided to get one of the gray straight leg Dress Pant Yoga Pants. It's shipped, and tracking shows I should have it tomorrow! Excited beyond belief to wear it on Monday.

i made a pair of work pants from ponte fabric. I found the fabric too hot at work (overheated nursing home). It is perfect for low intensity skating however.

Yes I did go with the straight leg. I love it!
Wore it yesterday but unfortunately was not able to get away from the office. I can see more pants like this in my closet in the future ;)

Any idea of how they'd do with cat fur? I usually change at the rink, partly so my fleece pants don't get covered in fur. (3 cats, fur ranging from white to brown to black, so nothing is safe!) If I wore them around the house before/after work it might be an issue.

I also have a cat, orange fur. Yup, fleece is really bad with holding fur.
The finish on these pants is fairly smooth as compared to cottony leggings, and lots smoother than fleece, so they don't grab onto fur so much. Seems to dust off without too much effort.

Nope. No pockets. All the 'pockets' shown in the pictures, front and back, are faux pockets. Guess they're there just to give the illusion of real pants, but without the bulk so it remains flat and smooth.
One more thing to consider: The material is quite heavy weight so it feels very substantial like a real pant. However you still have to be somewhat careful about your choice of underwear. Even with seamless varieties, if it's too tight the indentations will show. I don't do those t things, seamless boyshorts work best for me.

OK, good to know. The pockets thing might be a deal breaker for me… I think I'd go nuts at work without someplace to keep phone/swipe card/keys while I run around the building doing stuff.

This is the #1 thing I hate about wearing skating or yoga pants for anything other than the actual activity.

I also got the Betabrand gray straight legs. I like them, but I had to return the first pair due to size. They ran bigger than I expected and the "petite" size is still very long. The smaller petite size looks like it will be okay, barely, with wedge heels. When I called them about sizing, they were very helpful.

I wear black leggings under dresses/skirts. It's a very quick change!

I just got the LL Bean knit jeans and they're great. Though apparently this year's version has a less stretchy waistband.

Also, BetaBrand recently added dress sweatpants similar to the yoga pants, but with pockets. Adding to my "maybe someday" list.
