Title: Woo hoo! She did it!
Post by: jumpingbeansmom on September 13, 2010, 09:35:19 AM
When we got to the huge competition this weekend (3 juvie groups of 20 each) not only was the kid in the first group, but she WENT first-- it actually seemed to suit her.  There were some serious heavy hitters in her group too, geesh, but she got through the whole program with no falls and no major mistakes-  she ended up right in the middle of the pack for placing, which seems pretty good for 9 years old and new at Juvie!  She was so happy.  ;D

It sounds wierd to people who don't get skating levels to say woo hoo, she got 12th- LOL

Why would they think that's strange?  There are lots of other sports with large entry groups at each meet.  Swimming, gymnastics, track & field are all sports where each athlete has to qualify or do well and middle-of-the-pack is okay.

They can't compare it to a team sport like baseball or football - that's just apples vs. oranges.

People generally don't understand that you sometimes start skating a higher level before you have any chance at medaling there.

Wow! Good for her. What a good sport, at 9, to understand that a clean program is a big accomplishment at Juv! Congrats to you to for supporting her so well!

I like skating first because then I get to skate right out of the warmup, and I haven't seen what I'm up against.
