Searching for US Skating Coaches
« on: September 27, 2017, 08:42:58 AM »
New to an area of the US and looking for a #figureskating coach? There are several resources available online:

The USFSA has a list of Compliant Coaches and Partners:
http://www.usfsa.org/story?id=84158

The PSA has a searchable list of CER-Compliant Coaches:
http://www.skatepsa.com/psa/coach_compliance_search.html

The ISI has a searchable list of Professional Members (aka: coaches) here:
http://www.skateisi.com/site/Sub.Cfm?Content=Directory_Associates

These are simply lists of coaches who have registered and completed certain requirements.  A list cannot tell you how good or bad the coach is - your best bet is to check with current students, observe for a while or take group lessons with that coach, and then do a few trial lessons to make sure it's a good pairing.

Cool!

How interesting. If last year you got Cer A, but this year you renewed Cer B, USFSA only lists you as Cer B. But if you didn't take Cer B this year, they retain the Cer A listing from last year. :) So when you renew a lower level rating, you should renew your higher level ratings at the same time...

There are some discrepancies between the certification status reported by USFSA and PSA, e.g., in the first couple pages,

<< MOD NOTE: NAMES REMOVED >>

are both listed with no certifications by USFSA, but have certified Cer B by PSA the past two years. Maybe you have to tell USFSA when you certify with PSA? It's probably a good idea for coaches to check what their listings are.

Anyway, great links, even if, as you imply, certification level can't tell the whole story about how good a coach someone is. At the very least, a conscientious parent can verify the background check info of their child's coach, which might be a good idea.

Mod note: I've edited your post to remove the names you listed.
