I'm doing my best to get back to skating this year! Super excited about this. The "local" rink to me is an hour and a half away and only has ice October - April when hockey is in season. There's a club at the civic center and getting to the rink once or twice at week is probably all that I'll be able to do. Eventually, I'm moving to the Atlanta area and will be able to skate regularly there. I have family close by one of the rinks and have plans to make a weekend trip once a month during the off-season to have a lesson and get some practice in. THAT commute is close to 5.5 hours. Crazy things we do for skating!

First off, good for you!!! That's great to hear you will be skating again :) lol I had to laugh at your statement about the "crazy things we do for skating!" Because my non skating friends and family think I'm nuts to drive as far as I do for ice time and getting my skates sharpened. But in the end I find it all worth it ;)

I didn't realize how far some of you drive! I thought I had it bad with a 20 minute commute (light traffic, rush hour takes me a bit longer because it's a dead standstill). There's only one rink in my town.

Wow, some of you have a long way to travel! My rink is a hair over 10 minutes away.

In the winter, I public skate at a rink about 5~ minutes, but take lessons at a rink 15 minutes away. Now that it's Spring/Summer, I drive there for public too.

Man, I feel lucky. There's two rinks within 15 minutes of me, and at least... 4 more within 30 minutes. Some have terrible traffic to get to though. And all of them are open year round!

My rink is 1 mile from my house, and 3 miles from work (which allows me to skate on my lunch hour, since there's an 11:30-1:30 public every Monday-Friday). Just getting back into skating after quitting in 1999... and now realizing how ridiculous it is that I didn't get back into it sooner, since I've lived a mere mile away for the past 9 years!

40 minutes each way for us.  Too much gas money.
