Title: "RISE" Movie - DVD Sales *Updated 11/2011*
Post by: Isk8NYC on September 24, 2010, 05:01:47 PM
This movie will be in theaters for one night only, only February 17, 2011.

Quote
Commissioned by U.S. Figure Skating, the film RISE will celebrate American figure skating while commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1961 U.S. World Figure Skating Team that perished in a plane crash on its way to the World Championships in Prague. Produced and directed by 16-time Emmy Award winners Lookalike Productions, RISE will document the sports’ growth in popularity over the years and feature various luminaries of American figure skating. Proceeds from RISE will be used to further the mission of U.S. Figure Skating’s Memorial Fund, which was established on Feb. 23, 1961, as a living legacy of those who lost their lives. The film is scheduled to premiere February 17, 2011 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the tragedy.

I think they'll show it like the NY Metropolitan Opera broadcasts their series in theaters.
Near me, the attendees pretend they're actually going to the Opera, dressing up, drinks and nibbles instead of coke & popcorn.

Maybe we should have some www.skatingforums.com meetups at theaters?
(I will warn everyone in advance that I'm a crybaby at things like this.  Will bring tissues.)

Your idea about organizing a skatingforums party is brilliant! I know a lot of people will also go see the film with their clubs. Sadly for some of us stuck in the boondocks, where the film probably won't show, this is unlikely to happen.

USFS said they'd announce the places where the film will be played in Nov. I wonder people can actually request that it be shown in their area?

I sent an email to Regal Cinemas asking if they'd be showing it at a theatre in this area.

Their customer service department pointed me to Fathom Events, which is coordinating the showings: http://www.fathomevents.com/sports/event/usfs_rise.aspx  As I expected, Fathom Events also handles the Met's Opera series.

Tickets go on sale November 12, 2010 for the general public, buuuut....

THE USFSA SAYS THAT THEIR MEMBERS CAN BUY TICKETS FROM WWW.RISE1961.COM STARTING 11/5/2010.
(But I don't see a link on their site as yet!)

Nice piece in the NY Daily News about the 1961 team and its legacy, plus a note about the film.

They screened it at Nationals this weekend, but I didn't get to see it.  The book looks really nice.

You might want to check again.  Originally there was only one theater listed for the Twin Cities and now there are several (yay!). Perhaps your area has more listed now?  It's worth a shot.  :)

That's true: I had three options when the theater list was first updated, now I have four.

Still going to Briar Creek, though.

I suspect, although I forgot to confirm, that the movie will be released on DVD from the USFSA directly as a fundraiser for the Memorial Fund.

Someone "official" at Nationals last week said that they thought there would be a DVD of the film, but it may/may not include the presentations that are being done live during the simulcast.  Based on something I read on FSU, I'd expect it towards year-end.

I picked up a nice RISE! keychain at the USFSA table during Nationals.  I have it on my wallet clutch bag and I like it a lot!  Not bad for a freebie!

This is a really nice interview with Patricia Shelley Bushman, author of a book that was also for sale during Nationals:
http://www.lakeplacidnews.com/page/content.detail/id/503320.html

The book, titled “Indelible Tracings: The story of the 1961 U.S. World Figure Skating Team,” is a collection of life stories about the victims and how figure skating rallied to save the sport.  I leafed through it and it seemed well-written, although I didn't buy a copy.  It is available by mail-order through the RISE website since it was part of the research done for the movie.

I know I'm using this topic as a catch-all for 1961 information, but that's okay.  Better to have it in one place.

TOMORROW (2/8/2011) the World Figure Skating Museum & Hall of Fame is opening a new exhibit dedicated to the 1961 U.S. Figure Skating World team.  They were inducted into the Hall of Fame en masse last week during US Nationals.

The team was posthumously inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame as the Class of 2011 at the 2011 AT&T U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

The USFSA development office has taken a very active role in promoting the Memorial Fund, which is used to support skaters in training through gifts towards training needs and/or education.

There is a widget on the website (click on the photo) to accept cell phone donations or accept other contributions.

Part of the Rise! 1961 event and merchandise sales revenues will go towards the endowment of this fund.

I have to work.  :( BOO!

And I can't use the "sorry I can't scorekeep the hockey games, I'm going to see a figure skating movie" excuse because they'd all just laugh in my face. I hope they release it on DVD or something.

Speaking of the DVD, while there are rumors of it being released on home video, be aware that there is a completely different movie on Amazon available for sale.  It has nothing to do with figure skating's Rise movie.

Also, the USFSA asked for volunteers to hand out survey cards after the event. Check with your figure skating club if you have time.

Lots of press and media coverage this week in anticipation of this Thursday's "RISE" event.
Time to make meetup arrangements!  http://skatingforums.com/index.php/topic,432.0.html

Regarding the poll at the top of this thread: are there really only six people going to see this event out of the hundreds of members on the board?

From what I understand, there's a PRE-SHOW so plan to get to the theater early.

Followup story from Colorado Springs Examiner on the Hall of Fame exhibit: http://www.examiner.com/sports-in-colorado-springs/1961-world-team-exhibit-opens-at-figure-skating-museum

Thursday night's exhibit ceremony was the first of four things U.S. Figure Skating is doing in commemoration.

Next Tuesday morning there will be a wreath ceremony at 9:30 at the skate bench on the Broadmoor grounds.  The bench has the names of the eight Broadmoor members killed.

Next Thursday will be the nationwide showing of the film RISE, which will honor the victims and tell the story of the rebirth of American figure skating in its wake.  The film starts at 6:00 pm (MT), and will be shown at both Cinemark locations and the Hollywood Theatres in Colorado Springs.  To reserve tickets, call the theatres or go online to www.rise1961.com.

Then next Saturday there will be a Colorado Springs reception and fund-raiser for the Memorial Fund.  For information on that, contact U.S. Figure Skating at 719-635-5200.

I'm bringing tissues to the theater, too!

I'm not accepting this as an excuse for you to miss the event!  If you had theater tickets, you'd take the night off.  Why is it any less important to miss a one-time event just because it's figureskating related?  If it were an event about the 1982 Dream Team, you can be sure they'd be going and I'm sure you wouldn't mock them.  Don't allow people to be disrespectful to you - this is an opportunity to educate them so they can act like men, not bratty little boys.

Thank you for the tissue idea!

I am confused about the pre-show. Is it for every theater or just NYC?

Here's the schedule for Rise, per the Special Projects Manager at the USFSA.  (Thanks, Julie!)

The pre-show begins at 7:30pm ET...the first 20 minutes will be rolling slides about USFS programs and trivia, the last 10 minutes (so beginning at 7:50pm ET) will be live from NYC.

The film begins at 8:00pm ET.

The live post-show begins at 9:15pm ET and will last 30 min.

Everything will end by 9:45pm ET.

That was clear and concise - be there or be square!
Title: Re: "RISE" Movie - One-Night Only!

So for all theaters that play RISE, the excitement starts 30 minutes before the stated start time? E.g. in Chicago ticket says 7:00pm but slide shows likely will start 6:30pm? Thank you for the heads up Is8NYC!

That's correct.  I'm glad the woman at the USFSA (who must be under a deluge of messages) took the time to respond.

Now I just have to figure out how to get from the rink to the theater in time!  I have to teach until 6:15pm!

Things that make me go hmmmm...

I just found out that some people only paid $10, but our tickets were $15.  I assumed it was just a different market issue.

I talked to someone going to the same theater I am going to and when I mentioned the pre-show, she said the theater said it started at 8 and didn't mention anything about a pre-show.  I hope they have the pre-show!

I paid $15, also.  I thought it was supposed to be $15 everywhere, but I have heard of other markets being lower.  But I don't know why LA would be lower than Indiana...

The website (www.rise1961.com) says there will be another showing on March 7 at 7:30pm.  The website also doesn't say anything about a pre-show.

I wonder if the $10 ticket was a pre-sale price if you ordered through the USFSA?
I couldn't find the link on the day it was supposed to go live and then I forgot until after Nationals.

No biggie - I have to get there early anyway.  DH is bringing the kids so I can just go right there.  Worst case: we wait on line for good seats because the theater isn't open yet.  I can meet my co-coordinator and split up the exit cards on line.

No idea what will be included (pre- or post-wise) during the 3/7 showing.
It might only be in markets where they sold out the theater for tonight.  Have to wait and see.

I mentioned to my DD that, if you're going to buy tickets at the box office, look around and see if anyone has an extra that they're trying to sell.  Someone always finds themselves with an extra ticket because of last-minute changes, so you'd be doing a good deed.

I'm really excited.  Can you tell?

This just in - the USFSA added a "clarification" to their website, announcing tonight's start time:

Quote
2/17) - As a point of clarification, RISE premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT/8 p.m. PT. However, there is a 30-minute pre-show and a 30-minute post-show, so if you want to see the entire presentation, please plan to arrive at the theater at least a half-hour early and stay until an hour and 45 minutes after the start time printed on your ticket.
That was very clear and concise.

Fathom Event's site has a "Rise Encore" link on it now:  http://www.fathomevents.com/sports/event/riseencore.aspx
The recap reads:

Quote
The event will be broadcast to select movie theaters nationwide at 7:30 p.m. local time (Pre-show features will begin 30 minutes prior to the start of the event.)
I guess they're showing the same thing as tonight in its entirety.  So tonight's the live session, March 7th is all pre-recorded but you won't see anything different tonight than you would next month.  I don't understand the time comment though - tonight's 8pm ticket time begins at 7:30pm with a pre-show.  Does that mean next month's 7:30pm pre-show starts at 7pm?  (Eastern times)

IT WAS AWESOME!   Just the right mix of old footage, hilarious stories and explanation of the realities in the sport.  I didn't feel like we got the details on every one of the lost team members/coaches, but they said that the DVD coming out this Fall will include stories and video footage that didn't make it to the big screen.  DH has already said "You are buying the DVD."  He wants to see himself in the Nationals footage, lol.

Hamilton was a little choked up throughout the recorded interview footage - he revealed that he had just found out that his brain tumor had returned when they recorded.  He says he's okay now.  Fleming, Hamill and Kwan looked fantastic and were well-spoken, as always.  Boitano played the boy wonder with charm, explaining what a different type of parental relationship he had compared to the other skaters.  Very interesting.

Felt wierd to know the show was live, but we were remote.  They couldn't hear us if we laughed or clapped, so few people bothered.
Theater was packed and a lot of people came in just as the slide show was ending, so I'm glad only a few people missed the live pre-show.

Peter Carruthers was a little high-strung, like he was told to show more energy.  There was a woman commentator that I've never heard of - she was okay, nothing spectacular.  Not impressive at all, but Matt Lauer was excellent as always.

Frank Carroll's remarks about the Owen trio were really poignant and funny, as I expected.  I didn't know that Ron Ludington was one of Maribel Vinson Owen's students.  I've heard him speak in the past about other topics, like IJS, and he's really a pull-no-punches kind of guy with a great sense of humor.  The stories he and Carroll told about Ludington's training with Owen were HILARIOUS!  They both made him out to be a regular Chris Bowman, snicker.  My kids thought that Carroll and Ludington were brothers, but they didn't get the fact that the Jenkins men were brothers, lol.  I didn't even bother to try and explain Carol Heiss-Jenkins' role in that triangle.

They interviewed Vera Wang live in NYC, asking about how it felt to contribute (via costume design) to these champions and she was exceedingly modest, deferring to the champions' hard work and determination.  Classy reply.  I know she's a fashion designer, but I never realized that she was so thin!  Pretty dress she was wearing, too.  Kwan and Hamill looked styling.  Fleming's dress had a long zipper down the front, but it didn't really fit her very well.  She looked uncomfortable when sitting on the couches.

Spoiler from the post-show interview between Matt Lauer and Dorothy Hamill:
They revealed that they attended the same Connecticut high school.  He said that he the biggest crush on her in school.  However, hat, if she had looked at him he probably would have passed out.  How sweet.
I don't know if all the theaters gave them out, but we received exit cards for a survey.  If you complete the survey (you'll need your ticket stubs), they'll add you to the Memorial Fund mailing list and send you a commemorative ticket, collectors' pin and a special RISE edition of SKATING magazine.

Go to www.rise1961.com to complete the survey.  I don't see a link on the site yet, but I'm sure it will be up tomorrow.

Oh, they mentioned during the pre- or post-show that there will be an auction link on the Rise site, to benefit the memorial fund.

Great movie! I will definitely be getting the DVD, there's so much I want to see again, and all the extras!

My only real complaint is with the theatre I was at they had their own pre-show trivia overlapped with the slide show, so we couldn't really see it. And they only figured out how to get the sound working for the remote stuff about a minute before the movie started. So we missed pretty much all the pre-show stuff.

Oh, and no exit survey at our theater... at least, I didn't get one.

The exit cards were postcards with the website URL and what you get if you fill out the webform.
There were no serial numbers; that's why you need your tickets.
The other side was the photo of the 1961 team in front of the airplane with a note about this being a Memorial Fund benefit.

The other club's coordinator at our theater labeled half the cards from her club and half the cards from my club.  That was really thoughtful of her to share.
She decided to give them out during the slideshow, so I dispatched my kids and a few friends to help.  We were all done before the movie started, which was good because it was DARK during the post-show when people were walking out.  It would have been hard to hand them the cards in the dark.

We had one baby in the theater who cried a few times, but everyone else was well-behaved, lol.

One of the Manhattan theaters had technical issues so that group didn't get to watch the event at all.

I thought it was sad that there was no mention of Bradley Lord.
They did leave a lot of people out, right?  I felt like it was just Broadmoor and Boston skaters that were highlighted.  I wish they had trimmed the Owen ladies' stories a little bit to make time for the other skaters.  It would have been nice to explain the shortage of coaches that resulted and how that void was filled from outside the US.

Don't ask how I found this link to the survey:  LINK (http://fs12.formsite.com/USFSAIT/RISE_exit_survey/index.html)

You can redeem more than one ticket at a time.
You fill out the survey and you can choose not to donate to the Memorial Fund.  If you don't donate, you forfeit the special edition of SKATING magazine.
The system then sends you an email redemption form to complete in order to receive your pin(s) and commemorative ticket stub(s).
It didn't ask for the ticket number, but I'm guessing that the form will require it, so save your stubs!

I'm still waiting for the email; maybe it's not turned on as yet and I just messed up their systems, lol.  I'm so impatient!

Thank you for completing the RISE Exit Survey. Your feedback is extremely important to us. You will receive an email shortly with instructions on how to redeem your RISE ticket stub(s) for a collectors pin and commemorative ticket. Please e-mail us at risesurvey@usfigureskating.org with any questions.

Update: Never received the email response, so I tried again using a different email address and it was received within a minute.  Maybe it wasn't up and running last night - try again today.

I thouroughly enjoyed every minute that dealt with the 1961 skaters and coaches. Ron Lundington and Frank Carroll must have even juicier tid bits to share.

Favorites:

"It must've been hard to have a Mom who says, 'Clean your room, and straighten your free leg.'"

The cigarette commerical--yes, let's smoke and skate, omg!

The authentic wistfulness of friends, and fellow skaters and of course the pain of the surviving families.

Not so hot (imho):

why were so many people left out of the narrative? I agree that the Owen clan is compelling, inherently dramatic material, but what I wanted a fuller picture

historic context--this sad event didn't just affect future champions and coaches--it fundamentally changed rink culture, skating customs, and clubs; it wasn't just a tragedy but a complete game-changer

Nope, sorry, the coffee table chat felt like an infomercial--the whole "discussion" felt forced, self-conscious and staged--for $15.00 I 'd rather see more archival footage (that felt rare and special) and watch the other stuff on a promotional DVD

just my two cents

I had forgotten about this: when they filmed the post-show skating scenes at Nationals, there's one routine with Evan and a bunch of local skaters.  At one point, the kids skate while holding flags.  I said to my seatmate "See the girl on the right in the middle? She wipes out right after this part." Sure enough, a second later, you can hear the clatter of her flagpole hitting the ice as she fell.  She was a trooper (Bravo to her) ... got right back up and kept going.  I had forgotten about it until I saw the routine again.  I had wondered why they didn't reskate that routine, but you can't see her on the screen.

At Nationals, they showed footage from a pairs team on the screens with Denney-Barrett skating along live for the second half.  That didn't make the showing, perhaps because of a stumble.

SportsIllustrated article: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1182018/2/index.htm

One of the statements made was that Fassi was hired from Italy to replace Scholdan, who was from Austria.
Were there really that many coaches from other countries brought in to fill slots, as has been reported?

Loved it, and very valuable for my 10 year old skater who heard that even champions have doubts, rough spots, frustration and discord with coaches at times.   I think she liked it more than she expected, she had this look on her face that I cannot even describe, at even at the young age of 10, a tear rolled down her cheek over the footage of the crash with the skate in the rubble.

I also felt the coffee table talk was forced, staged, or even irrelevant at times. Liked the old footage and interviews but they were cut short IMO. More in-depth analysis of the aftermath would be appreciated, after all, the movie is made for the figure skating community, not general public.

I missed the pre-show so can't comment, but the post-show really did not keep my attention except for the on-ice performances.

I expected more of the "after the crash" history, too.

"On Thin Ice," was a biography written about the Canadian Jelinek pairs team.  Otto Jelinek has said that they were supposed to be on that flight, but their coach made them wait for him, so they gave up their seats.  I think I read it in the mid-1980's and I was shocked to find out about the crash.  I had no idea, which is why I was so interested in this movie.

Not the greatest, since it's cut off while the guy with the microphone's still talking.
Still, since they were mentioned but not seen, I thought someone else would appreciate this video.

iirc, Don Jackson and his coach, Pierre Brunet, were supposed to be on the flight as well, but Don fell ill and they decided to wait a few more days before flying out.

As for people not covered in the movie, I'm very interested to see what's included in the extras on the DVD. Maybe there wasn't enough footage for them to do much more in the movie...? Or maybe their families didn't want to take part?

I enjoyed the movie and I am very motivated to skate now!  I would have liked to see more of the old videos, but I see that they are posted on FSU, so I will look at them later.  The descriptions of Maribel's teaching style sound just like my coach!  She must have been a wonderful lady.  And $5 per lesson?!?!

I went with a friend from skating, who is 15, and her mom, who is in her mid-40s and also skates.  Her mom, who is new to skating and is really odd in many ways, said she was disappointed because she expected it to be more like a movie with actors...  ??? ???
Title: Re: "RISE" Movie - One-Night Only!
Post by: FigureSpins on February 18, 2011, 05:08:43 PM
That's curious.  Why we should expect that?  Maybe because they hired Dakota Fanning to read Maribel's poem?

$5 per lesson and her pupil charging almost as much...that had to hurt.   (Remember that in 1961, you could buy a new house for $17K and gas was 30¢/gallon.)

Here's the infamous copy of Sports Illustrated with Laurence Owen on the cover:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/cover/featured/7704/index.htm

My coach was a lot like Maribel - very demanding, headstrong and sometimes unwelcome at given rinks.  I can only imagine what she was like.

I thought the movie was okay, but I think giving Doug Ramsay so much coverage (he came in 4th at Nationals) while ignoring Bradley Lord (1st) and Gregory Kelly (2nd) was a poor editorial choice. I didn't stay for the skating, I had to catch an early morning plane.

As far as the $5 per lesson. I looked up the worth on an economic website and in today's dollars that's roughly $50 today.

I wonder how long a lesson was back then.

When Ron Luddington was quoting that lesson price that was for a half-hour - I remember how exorbatant that seemed - when I first started in 1960 the coaches charged $10/hr but most people had 15-minute lessons - the patch session would be 45 minutes long and the coach would give 3 lessons in the session- by the time I quit in 1968 (and Ron Luddington was at my rink that year actually) it was $12/hour.

It seemed outrageously expensive at the time.  I am sure that the higher-level skaters took half-hour lessons and I do remember that my dance lessons were a half-hour for some reason - but figures lessons and freestyle lessons were 15 minutes.

My skates (stock Oberhammers - considered a decent stock boot back then) cost about $60 and I remember the Coronation Ace blade was $35.  I was jealous of my dad who had custom Harlicks that cost about $150 and he had some special blades that were made by a local Detroit guy - they were called "Space blades" - his own invention I guess.

I loved that they did such a long piece about Doug Ramsey - maybe because they thought that he might become one of the great ones or that because Tim Brown withdrew because of illness that he would not have gone otherwise -- he was from my club and his coach was also killed in the crash - Bill Swallender -

Just registered here, inspired to do so by RISE, the demise of Synchro Boards and having recently discovered this wonderful community. I've lurked for less than a week -- I'm mightily impressed by all of you, moderators, administrators and contributors! I'm just a skater mom, a sherpa for a solo ice dancer, junior coach and former synchro skater, but I believe in this sport and want to be helpful.

Our local theatre did no promotion outside the RISE poster in the lobby area -- no listing on the street-side board of the showing, nothing in the ticketing area. Essentially, one had to have insider knowledge to show up and buy tickets, and indeed, the theatre in the multiplex was perhaps 15% full at 15$ per ticket Thursday evening. Attendees were mostly teenaged girls and some parents and coaches in club jackets from skating clubs around the area. Overall, a very well-behaved crowd (such as it was!) and tween-plus, on a school night.

As a professional broadcaster, I have to say that the live portion was pretty redundant, as some posters have already noted. Peter Carruthers seemed forced, and quite frankly made me uncomfortable, Matt Lauer was as good as any network anchor might have been - clearly USFSA had to choose which national morning show to stroke for a package and which to alienate in the choice. (This is not a negative comment; this is how it works. I work for a news station in the area owned by another network and when I suggested the story, was shot down because the competing NBC affiliate got the exclusive, however, it didn't cover it at all. So, no local coverage. Pity. Again, the risk you take when you grant an exclusive.)

The post-film insights from the filmmakers was interesting and I would have liked more of the behind the scenes info as opposed to expanding (or attempting to) on thoughts the storytellers had more than adequately expressed in the film. Though anything Scott Hamilton wants to share about anything is always interesting and suprising, IMHO.

A  collective, convulsive gasp cross the entire theatre when Vera Wang appeared. Many admissions among the young girls in the lobby afterward about tears over the footage of the charred skates in the wreckage.

I don't want to start a roast of Vera Wang here, who clearly has some body image issues, but I was gratified that all these impressionable teenage girls in the crowd at RISE were uniformly aghast at her unhealthy appearance. On the way out, I heard one say, "Maybe the Memorial Fund could buy Vera Wang a sandwich!" And the replies were murmured agreement, no giggles.

It was hard to pay attention to what she was saying when it was impossible to stop counting her ribs. Yikes.

But I've been at rinks where coaches have been very specific about diet and weight, and know of one who will police the snack area and snatch a bag of chips or a cookie out of childrens' hands. The laws of physics are unchangeable and the best female jumpers seem to be built like young boys -- but there's room in the sport for so many body shapes, and I've seen some of the most beautiful, joyful skating by young women with hips and bosoms!

I was concerned when Dick Button raved that Bethenny Frankel had the perfect body shape for skating on the recent competition show, when I thought she looked kind of starved.

Pardon the verbiage, perhaps this is a discussion for another thread -- I plead newbie-ness.

The encore showing of RISE is TOMORROW at 7:30pm local time.

I went to see Rise tonight and handed out the survey information cards.  En route to the theater, I missed the exit (GPS died again) so I was a little late, but it hadn't started yet when I got into the theater.  I went row-to-row and gave out the cards so I didn't have to leave my seat early.  There were less than 20 people in the theater.

Saw someone I knew, so I sat with her and we laughed at a lot of things that I had missed the first time around.  Example: a woman holds up her iPhone during Vera Wang's interview.  She might have been taking a photo or recording the interview, I don't know, but it was absurd.  When everyone was on stage for the last chat, with the filmmakers, I thought out loud "I wonder if they're wearing Vera Wang designs?"  My seatmate just cracked up.

There's a point where Matt Lauer says that this was the first event where every living US OGM winner have been together.  During the original airing, he (and Peter Carruthers) makes that comment, but we never actually SAW the OGM holders.  During this airing, they inserted the missing video footage of them all together on the red carpet.

They didn't correct Lauer's misspeak in saying that Lysacek created and choreographed one of the promotional skating routines.  It was actually Randy Gardner who choreographed all those events filmed at Nationals.

I have at least 80 of the exit cards left.  Guess I'll recycle them.

The 1961 U.S. Championships, held just weeks before the team perished in the crash, were the first U.S. Championships broadcast on national television.

Nice bonus feature: the 1961 US Champs TV broadcast.  Bittersweet to watch, I'm sure.

Welcome to skatingforums!

A short time ago, I came across a site (http://www.rise1961dvd.com) that seems to take orders for the DVD and Blu-ray disc(s).  The announcement earlier this month from the USFSA said that the sales would "coincide with" the movie being shown on Versus next month (10/22/2011)  (more details upthread a few posts)

Announcement(s): http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110921&content_id=25016124&vkey=ice_news

HOWEVER, the caveat is that I'm not sure if the DVD purchasing site is real or not, so until there's an official announcement, I wouldn't use it to order.  It could be a phishing site or it might not be working properly yet.

Please be patient a little longer - I'm sure they'll have things up and running soon.  If anyone hears more about the DVD/B-r sales, please post it here!

10/7/2011 Update: The store is now open!  (See post, below)

I DVR'ed the Versus broadcast, but my DVDs came in the mail, so I watched those instead.

Anyone else watch RISE or the 1961 Championships DVD?

I used Ten Mayflower's contact form to ask about the DVD's Region.  The reply from the company was that it is "Open region (good for all)."
