Pain in the arches after skating
« on: May 06, 2015, 10:58:58 PM »
I'm skating with Riedell's 229, the Edge for about a month now, and I'm pretty sure they're broken in. But recently, after skating, I have a pretty bad pain in my arches. No pain on the ice, but when I step off and start walking to take off my skates, it's really painful. After my skates are off, I can barely walk to my car. It's like the pain starts in my arches and goes through the top of my foot. My initial thought was that my skates were too tight, but honestly any looser and my heel lifts from the bottom of the boot. Any suggestions of what to do?

Have you tried loosening the laces just over the top of your foot? I pull mine tight at the toe, looser across the top, and then tight at the ankle again. I was having the same problem, and changing the lacing definitely helped. Then again, if your heel is slipping up, maybe the boot doesn't fit your conformation?

You need to analyze your problem a little more to be sure of the problem.

Do you have more pressure on one part of the bottom of your foot than another? Where?

Once you know that, you may be able to add tape or foam to equalize things.

I think another possibility is that your heels are too high.

I suggest you also call Riedell for suggestions.

They weren't custom boots, were they?

No, they weren't custom. I'll try loosening them up a bit at the arch and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I'll see what Riedell has to say.
