Testing Dresses - How much can I get away with?
« on: April 18, 2014, 10:37:30 AM »
I was fabric shopping last night, hoping to take advantage of the "nothing to do Sunday" and get started on my testing dress. I picked up some lovely burgundy velvet, but found a striking blue/red mylar chiffon that is a perfect (PERFECT!) compliment to the velvet. I want to do an applique and an underskirt to the velvet. But it's supposed to be for a test.

Does a test dress HAVE to be boring as all get out? Or can I take some liberty?

At least in my area, as long as you are clean, neat, and well presented, what you wear isn't as important as how you skate.

Most girls around here wear their competition dresses for tests - that way they are wearing something they already have and they feel comfortable in.

Judges do frown upon $1000 uber sparkly dresses for pre-pre tests... but other than that, I think you should be fine!

Okay, cool - because the more I look at these fabrics, it would be a CRIME to keep them apart! Nothing too fancy, but it definitely won't be plain!

Whatever you want to wear is fine :)

What you wear on test day is more about how YOU feel on the ice than what you look like - within reason, of course.  Form-fitting and non-restrictive are really the only two requirements.... so no testing in PJ pants :)
