Skating clubs at Haymarket Iceplex, in Virginia?
« on: January 26, 2014, 01:57:47 PM »
For a directory listing, I want a list of skating clubs that frequently skate at the Haymarket Iceplex, in Haymarket, VA.

So far I have found

  Piedmont Predators youth hockey club
A possibly out of date reference to a synchro team within The National Blades that sometimes practices there.

What is the name of the specific National Blades team that practices there?

Do you folks know of any other skating clubs that practice there - e.g., USFSA or ISI clubs? (They guy who answered the phone didn't.)

Thanks.

I just checked the current US Figure Skating directory and don't see that rink listed as either the principal headquarters or "other" rink for any of the clubs in Virginia.

I know this probably isn't what you are looking for but thought I would check anyway.

Not all rinks have a US Figure Skating club attached to it - this is true of one of the rinks in my area - it used to have a club and now if it does... I would be surprised -

Per their FAQ, the LTS curriculum is USFSA Basic Skills.

Looks like the program is called the "Piedmont Skating School."

(I want to say Michael Weiss' sister, Geremi, is the Program Director, but I'm not sure if that's true.)

Maybe they don't have a figure skating club.

I guess a rink really can survive mostly on the hockey crowd.

I met someone at the Synchro Team exhibitions they did at Fort Dupont (a send-off to the Eastern competitions they just had in Hershey, PA) from Haymarket. But her daughters were on the Ashburn teams.

The story behind Haymarket is that when their original rink closed in 2009 or 10 at the beginning of the hockey season, the league started looking around for for another rink. What they found was someone to donate an unused lumber yard when the league converted into a rink.

MadMax coaches there, but I've never heard her mention a club. I think there is a figure skating program there as several coaches from Dale City moved there when the roof fell in.

Yep, figure skating in Virginia, long saga of greedy mall owners, poor engineering safety reports, and underinsured rinks.
