A well-intentioned PR piece to drum up interest in figure skating classes:
http://sports.yahoo.com/ski/news?slug=ycn-10301097
I thought there would be some sort of an online discount code or something for local classes. Title confused me a bit since the article's really about the inexpensive Basic Skills membership. It implies that lessons are included for $12.
In reality, Basic Skills memberships are $15, do not include Skating magazine, and you pay extra for lessons unless a charity offers them for free.

Indeed, confusing.
While BS membership does not include Skating Magazine, I believe that it does include the Basic Skills magazine.

I thought the BSS edition was a once-a-year publication using parts of the "real" Skating magazine? Do the BSS members get more than one issue a year?
-
Sorry, that yahoo ad reads like BS to me.
Last time I did a cursory look the insurance they talk about was supplemental.
Overall an unappealing loss leader.

I read it and I swear I thought it was a gift from a rental care company (Nationwide and Budget). It took me a second time through to realize I needed a dope slap.

I'm not sure how many issues they do. I am thinking it is 2 or 3 per year, but maybe not???

I own two issues of the BSS edition of Skating - the Michelle Kwan 2008 issue and the Evan Lysacek 2010 issue. The Lysacek one just says "2010 edition," so I figured it was a once-a-year marketing effort. It's a nice giveaway with a lot of information for skaters and parents. I know the photo posters and skill cards in the center were a hit. I just wondered if they issued it more than once per season.
