What counts as a jump?
« on: August 13, 2016, 02:55:47 PM »
I am working on a new number for Bronze Showcase.  I am allowed 'no more than 3 jumps.'  My planned jumps are salchow, loop, and waltz.   But, I have room in the choreography and it would be super cute, to add a few bunny hops and a mazurka.   Anyone know if a bunny hop or a mazurka are counted as jumps .. . . or are they transitional skating?

My daughter has a bunny hop and mazurka in her current USFSA program and neither count towards total jump elements.

Which is too bad, because I think a mazurka is a cute little jump for a woman, and when done big by a guy it's a great transition that breaks up the skate skate jump of IJS. I'd also like to see more walleys and half jumps, and russian splits--big exciting toe touching russian splits!!!

Sorry OT.   :-[

I agree.  GIANT marzurkas, MASSIVE russian splits,  GINORMOUS opened up single axels,  and walleys!   Walley walley walley walley!  (Who doesn't thrill when they see a walley in a program?).  It's as if the scoring scheme was designed by someone who hates skating.  :-[

A mazurka and a bunny hop are both considered connecting moves, not jumps.  You should be fine.
