The Igloo Ice Rink at Mount Laurel, NJ

Two Hours of Ice Skating for Two People Plus Skate Rental - $10

Quote
Zamboni drivers must be a frustrated lot. They slowly resurface every inch of an oval rink till the ice gleams and sparkles, only to watch carefree skaters slide right over their hard work. Take a break from your own daily trudge and join the gleeful gliding with today's deal: $10 for two hours of ice skating for two people, with skate rental, at the Igloo Ice-Rink in Mount Laurel (a $20 value). Here, figure skaters, Flyers wannabes, and families alike gamely take to the ice with grace and grit, circling the rink in whatever way best suits their skills. (There's even a fleet of special "walkers" for little ones to lean on while they're still getting their footing). So lace up, enjoy, and put your budget worries on ice -- sorry, Zamboni drivers.

groupon deal for Raleigh Center Ice (formerly Raleigh RecZone) in Raleigh, NC
http://www.groupon.com/deals/raleigh-center-ice

•For $10, you get ice-skating passes for two (a $20 value).
•For $18, you get ice-skating passes for four (a $40 value).

Not sure I care for the tone of the "creative writing" on this one, which includes this blurb:
"barrel toward figure skaters" and "full-chested hockey slams?"

I'm tempted to write a note to the rink manager.

Since I started tracking these things, this is the only groupon for ice skating passes that didn't sell out immediately.

. So far, 890 deals were purchased.  Maybe the total to sell was set too high at something like 1,000?
. The public sessions are shoehorned between hockey ice rentals, so they vary in length from 1.17 to 2 hours.
. Even with the 50% discount, the public session cost is overpriced for the area.
. There are a lot of other rinks in the area that a skater can choose from instead.
. Personally, I blame the groupon ad for being a turn-off to anyone who isn't a hockey player, lol.

I just found this interesting and thought I'd share.

groupon deal for Fairfax Ice Arena, Fairfax, VA
http://www.groupon.com/deals/fairfax-ice-arena

Quote
In the 1930s, the U.S. government issued a hobby to each citizen to keep them entertained until NASA finished working out the bugs in kissing. Self-determine a new pastime with today's Groupon to the Fairfax Ice Arena in Fairfax. Choose between the following options:
•For $10, you get admission to an open-skating session and skate rental for two (up to a $22 value).
•For $17, you get admission to an open-skating session and skate rental for four (up to a $44 value).

Open for nearly 40 years, the Fairfax Ice Arena hosts year-round sessions of open skating and offers lessons for both beginning and advanced bladers. Lace up each ice-piercing shoe and glide onto the smooth surface to practice backward skating, figure eights, and safe falls into the welcoming arms of a Zamboni machine. Open-skating sessions accept glacial commuters seven days a week, with a schedule that varies by season and includes holiday hours. A visit to the Arena Café warms up frosty fingers with toasty apple cider and hot chocolate and dissuades parched tongues from replacing moisture by licking the rink.

Fairfax Ice Arena's rates fluctuate throughout the week.

Slusher would like this writeup - licking the ice, lol.

Groupon deal: http://www.groupon.com/deals/nytex-sports-centre-3

Nytex Sports Centre in North Richland Hills

Quote
Ice is nothing more than water that won't let people swim in it. Such stubbornness deserves comeuppance in the form of sharp metallic blades that merrily crisscross to and fro across the frozen surface. Put ice in its place with today's Groupon to Nytex Sports Centre in North Richland Hills. Choose from the following options:

For $10, you get admission for two to a Friday Night Skate, including skate rentals (a $20 value).

For $49, you get eight weeks of figure or hockey skating lessons (a $99 value). Fall skating lessons begin Friday, October 14, and class registration must be complete no later than Sunday, October 23 for late entrance.

For $49, you get a Puck party package for up to 10 children (a $100 value) that includes:
•Party host
•Party room

For $59, you get a Slap Shot party package for up to 10 children (a $120 value) that includes:
•Party host
•Party room
•Two large pizzas or 10 hot dogs
•Two pitchers of soda

Nytex Sports Centre invites skaters of all ages to slice the ice across the same rink that the Central Hockey League’s Texas Brahmas call home. Pairs of gliders can slip into rental skates before showing off figure eights or slow-motion salchows during Friday Night Skate, held on select Fridays from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Thirty-minute skate lessons introduce little feet to slippery surfaces during eight-week sessions, divvied up into age- and experience-appropriate levels. Youngsters of any ability can learn fancy footwork in Tot 1 & 2 (ages 3–5), Pre-Alpha (figure skaters ages 6 and older), or Hockey 1 (hockey skaters ages 6 and older); adult courses provide grown-up gliders a mature environment in which to execute flying V formations while dressed in their sharpest sequined shirts. Click here for additional FAQs on skating lessons, or call ahead to inquire about upgrading to specialized skating lessons for an additional fee, including the Competitor's class ($225) and Mini-Mite Hockey ($249).

Nytex Sport Centre also welcomes birthday ice-blazers with two festive party packages that accommodate up to 10 skaters or five skating horses. The Slap Shot celebration fuels festivities by serving up savory bites from ZuRoma Sicilian Kitchen, including hot dogs or pizzas, and both packages provide one festive room and an accompanying host for up to 90 minutes before or after public skate.

Although Nytex Sports Centre sometimes features a discounted price online, this Groupon still offers the best deal available.

That last line is a subtle reminder that you should sign up for your rink's mailing list and check the website regularly.  Many rinks offer deals throughout the year.

With ample water and cooler temperatures, Detroit is a great place to hit the pond in your skates -- as long as you don't mind frigid outdoor winds and questionable patches of ice. With today's deal from Mount Clemens Ice Arena on North Groesbeck Highway, you can experience all the joy of skating without exposure to the elements. Slide over $15 for a ten-punch card valid during public skating times -- a $35 value. Skaters will enjoy the dual NHL-regulation sized rinks offering frequent general public skate times with a number of options for themes. No skates? Rent them there for an additional fee. Buy yourself a hot chocolate from the concession stand or hit the game room and leave the snow to the skiers.

Now that the puck's dropped on another exhilarating Blues season, you can get ready for all the ice-capades with today's deal from Webster Groves Ice Arena. Lace up your skates for half off when you pay $5 (Webster Groves resident) or $6 (nonresident) for ice skating for two, including skate rental (a $10 and $12 value, respectively). Got a whole team to entertain? Pay $25 (residents) or $30 (nonresidents) for skating for up to ten people, including skate rental (a $50 and $60 value respectively). Check the schedule, and come by any time of year to enjoy the indoor rink. Whichever way you skate -- forward, backward, or round and round -- this is a real one-timer that's sure to light the lamp.

I love the resident/non-resident rates at municipal ice rinks.

We're on the brr-rink of colder conditions, but it's not quite frosty enough for you to take that Zamboni to your local pond. That doesn't mean you can't carve out some wintery fun with today's ice cold deal: Spend $10 (regularly $21) for three ice skating passes with skate rentals at Herbert Wells Ice Rink in College Park. Glide over to this 600-seat ice arena, that includes a snack bar and an indoor warming room. Officially open to the public on October 14 for the 2011 ice skating season, this family-friendly ice rink boasts proximity to the University of Maryland, Route 1, and the DC Metro system's green line, so you won't get iced trying to find the place. We couldn't cryogenically freeze this half-off deal, so act now, so family fun will be the only thing above zero.

Atrium Le 1000 De La Gauchetière

It's no coincidence that as the temperature slowly diminishes, the list of fun family activities shrinks along with it. But today's deal puts the icing on the cooler weather by bringing the outdoors inside. A quick $6 gets you one visit of unlimited ice skating and one skate rental for one person at Atrium Le 1000 De La Gauchetière (regularly $14). Located within the majestic downtown skyscraper, Le 1000 de la Gauchetière, you can stride like P.K. Subban or glide like Gomez while the sun shines through from the large glass dome overhead. Bring the whole family, skate to the background music, then take a break at one of the nearby restaurants. The temperature's always perfect and, unlike at the Bell Centre, nobody here will boo if you slip. We think this 56%-off deal is definitely worth cheering for.

Joel Coliseum Annex Ice Rink
Winston Salem, NC

Old Salem, while home to the rich history of the Moravians, is also known to harbor a few ghosts. And while traipsing along the cobblestone streets in search of spooks may appeal to you, your girlfriend would prefer a more romantic evening. With today's deal from the Joel Coliseum Annex Ice Rink, reach a compromise and score ice skating admission for two for $9 or four for $15 -- an $18 and $36 value, respectively. The rink will open to the public on October 28, where you and your date can attend Skate and Scare, a Halloween-themed event that includes a live DJ spinning scary tunes, a costume contest, candy, and food and drink; or, choose to hit the ice at a later date. See? You don't have to hunt for haunts to add a little chill to your outing.

The ice rink is where heroes are made -- just look at Olympian Evan Lysacek, the Blackhawks, or Will Ferrell in Blades of Glory. With today's deal at Leafs Ice Centre, your tyke can debut his skating talent in the company of friends: for $49, get an ice skating party for eight, including eight open skate passes for the studio rink, eight skate rentals, usage of the party room for an hour, a party helper, and eight open skate passes with skate rental for your next visit (a $179 value). Pint-size partiers can glide around the ice with the supervision of a handy helper and celebrate a birthday (may we suggest a cool ice cream cake?) in the private party room. Whether you have a puckish hockey hopeful or lithe figure skating lover, this 73%-off deal is the ticket to a gold medal for parenting.

If you're in desperate need of an activity to wear down your tots' sugar high from Halloween candy, today's deal will have you spellbound. Pay $4 for ice skate rental and rink admission for one or pay $9 for ice skate rental and rink admission for two at Rocket Ice in Bolingbrook. Groupon: http://www.groupon.com/deals/khs-ice-arena?c=dnb&p=3

If woolly mammoths had mastered the triple Lutz, they would've made it out of the Ice Age and into the Bronze Age, if not the Silver or Gold Age. Ensure your long-term survival with today's Groupon to KHS Ice Arena in Anaheim. Choose between the following options:
•For $10, you get an ice-skating outing for two (a $26 total value), which includes the following: •Two admissions to public skate (a $20 value)
•Two skate rentals (a $6 value)

•For $30, you get a five-week beginner's figure-skating class (a $60 value).

At KHS Ice Arena, skaters glide and twirl on two 200-foot rinks, showing off inborn ice savvy during public free skate or learning the intricate techniques of figure skating with a schedule of beginner classes. Ice skating is a great way to stay active and healthy without using fancy exercise contraptions (bags of rocks, bags of corn chowder, etc.). Put those neglected leg muscles to use during free skate and burn calories while having a blast mimicking your favorite skating champs such as Elena Dementenova, Isaac Dementenova, or Russell Dementenova. For tykes or tweens looking to flaunt better form during free skate, expert instructors illuminate the icy path to figure-skating greatness with five-week tot or pre-alpha classes that teach basic skills and skating dance-duel etiquette. Each 30-minute class convenes Sundays and spins kids up to 16 years old through the fundamentals of the art form after regaling them with cautionary tales of zamboni drag races. The arena arms each student for ice-cutting glory with included skates, though novice ice dancers should come prepared in warm clothing.
