Title: Skating senior project ideas?
Post by: 1210 on February 22, 2011, 07:46:28 PM
Hey all!
So, next year I will be doing my highschool senior project, and I am pretty excited for it! Basically, all it has to be is a learning experience where I can spend hours practicing something and doccumenting the practice.
I really want to do it on figure skating, but need to get some ideas on what I could do. So far, the only thing I can think of is the physics of FS.

Any ideas would be awesome!
thanks :)

Hmmm, compare and contrast the mechanics behind ballet and figure skating when it comes to spins or jumps? I heard the physics formulae in Ice Princess are mostly wrong so don't use those :P

I agree with the mechanics idea. Anatomy, physiology, exercise science, etc., would all be ways that you can go...

What about choosing two LTS skaters who start at the same point (level, skater size, athleticism, classes) and track their practice time and LTS progress to see what impact more / less practice has on skating?

Or track the class of LTS skaters all starting together and see how personality also affects things. I remember my coach saying how it would be interesting to see how two celebrities we had for Dancing on Ice progressed, as one had a sporting background and therefore body awareness the other came from a non-sporting background. Interestingly the non-sporting one was highly dedicated and self-motivated and progressed better, and the sporting one after initially being better fell behind when his nerves overcame him after a bad fall.
