Drumroll.... I've Decided on Skates!
« on: August 04, 2014, 08:10:38 PM »
I've finally made a decision!

I'm going with Harlick!  Basically they will be High Testers.

Jim and coach recommend a stiff boot for me.  High Testers are slightly less stiff than my current skates.

I spoke to Phil at Harlick today - called about doing a color scheme as in my thumbnail but they put him on the phone with me so discussed the skates and think I've got all the basic parts worked out but some will be for Jim to recommend when I go back to him.

I can't remember where I took the screenshot of the white with black colored boots in thumbnail but I think they are classic and dreamy.  Wish I could find the website again.  It was some classic/vintage skating site.

I don't know yet.  I still have to go back to have my feet traced and the first appointment available is the 19th!  I'm guessing 8-12 weeks?

Jim is going to work on my current boots a bit more too, to stop my heel from moving so they should be better while I wait.

I am waiting (impatiently) on my new lightweight Harlick High Testers. I currently am in the non-lightweight version and love them (have had them for three years now). Phil is great to work with, and he and I over the past few pairs have figured out different modifications to the boots that make them perfect for me. Usually they take about 6-8 weeks once you place the order, depending on if they have to build them and what modifications/options you want/need. If you don't need any and they have your size, then it's a shorter time.

Good luck! Hope you enjoy them once you get them!

Oooo, how exciting!  Curious how many pairs you've had and how long they've lasted?

These are going to have to be made so it will be a while.   Patience is my mantra.   :)

These will also be High Testers, not the lightweight.

This is my third pair of Harlicks. Customs first, then semi-custom stock boots the last two pairs. All High Testers (or their equivalent in the customs). Generally, they last me 2.5-3.5 years. This pair I've had on the higher end of that and they are trashed (I'm duct taping them for support). But Harlick also does a great job of rebuilding boots, so you don't always have to buy new every time you need them. I have gotten new each time for various reasons (weight loss, change in options, etc) but you don't necessarily have to.

Wow, I've had my current (Reidell Royals, which are a bit stiffer than the Harlick High Testers) for 20 years, (with an approximate 12 year break from skating) and they are not broken down as far as support.  They just probably  never quite fit me right.

May I ask what level you are skating at?

I skate at Adult Silver (working on axel, double sal and double toe right now). I'm also working on Intermediate moves and my Pre-Silver dances. I'm 5'9", so relatively tall for a female skater, and tend to be really hard on skates.
