Canadian Personal bests 2010-2011 Season
« on: October 30, 2010, 12:39:18 AM »
It's interesting to keep track of personal bests for Canadian skaters, so I'll try to do that in this thread  for the remainder of this season.

There were several personal bests at the first day of Skate Canada.  Leaving aside the short dance, where there really isn't much basis for comparison yet, there were personal bests in the women's short program and pairs short program.

In the women's event, Amelie Lacoste's score of 55.30 just beat her previous ISU personal best of 55.10 from last year's Skate Canada event.  It's also the best score she has ever had in any competition, ISU or not.  Myriane Samson's score of 51.62 just beat her previous ISU personal best for the short program of 51.60, established at last season's 4CC Championship.  However, she has had higher scores at other competitions, such as Canadians last season (53.51).

In the pairs event Duhamel/Radford's short program score of  54.80 was by definition a new ISU personal best since this was their first ISU competition.  However, it was also their best short program score to date, beating their previous best of 51.81 from Nebelhorn.  Moore-Towers/Moscovitch's short program score of 53.68 was a new ISU personal best for them, beating their previous ISU personal best of 51.14 from last season's Skate Canada.  It does not beat their best score ever of 54.86 from the Isabelle Henderson competition earlier this season, however.

Finally, Lawrence/Swieger's short program score of 56.14 was far higher than their previous ISU personal best of 48.64 from the World Junior Championships in 2009.  It does not beat their best score ever of 58.22 from last season's Canadian Championships, however.

There were also several personal bests established by Canadians in the second and third days of Skate Canada.

In pairs the most notable personal best was the long program score of Kirsten Moore-Towers/Dylan Moscovitch (117.24).  This was far better than both their previous ISU personal best (95.77 from last year's Skate Canada) and their previous personal best from any competition (105.67 from last season's Canadian Championships).

Paige Lawrence/Rudy Swiegers established a new ISU  personal best with their long program score of 105.01.  It also was their best long program competitive score ever, ISU or not .  It beat  their previous ISU personal best of 88.43 from the 2009 World Junior Championships, and was better than their previous best score ever of 103.28 from BC Skate in 2009.

The long program score of 103.73 for Meagan Duhamel/Eric Radford was by definition a new ISU personal best, since it was their first competition that counts toward that.  It was not quite up to their 104.54 long program score from the Quebec Summer competition, however.

In the men's competition Patrick Chan's long program score of 166.32 beat his previous ISU personal best for the long program of 160.30 from the Olympics.  It does not, however, beat his  . . um . . somewhat overmarked score of 177.88 from last season's Canadian Championships.

In the women's competition Amelie Lacoste established a new long program personal best score of 101.96.  This beat her previous ISU personal best score of 97.99 from last season's 4CC competition, which was to this point the best long program score she's ever had in any competition, ISU or not.  Myriane Samson did exactly the same thing.  Her long program score of 100.43 was a new ISU personal best.  It beat her previous ISU personal best score of 99.30, which was also established at last season's 4CC competition and which was to this point the best long program score she's ever had in any competition.

Finally in dance two personal bests were established in the free dance.  Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier (just) established a new ISU personal best with their free dance score of 91.47.  Their previous ISU best score was 91.22 from last season's World Championships.  That score was also the best score in any previous competition, ISU or not.  Alexandra Paul/Mitchell Islam's score of 87.61 beat their previous ISU personal best score of 83.15 from last season's World Junior Championships.  That score had  been to this point their best score in any competition.

Finally catching up on NHK as well, where there were two personal bests.

In the short program Shawn Sawyer's score of 70.15 was a new ISU personal best, beating his previous ISU short program personal best of 65.95 from last season's Skate America.  It did not however beat his best ever short program score of 72.93, which was from last season's Canadian Championships.

In the pairs Brodeur/Mattatall has a new ISU personal best for overall score (combined short and long) of 151.97.  This beat their previous ISU best overall score of 150.71 from last season's NHK competition.  Interestingly, however, even though they established a new overall personal best at NHK this year, their ISU best short and long program scores still are at other competitions (2010 4CC for the short program and 2009 Rostelecom Cup in Russia for the long program).  Although this was an ISU personal best, this did not beat their score of 167.01 from last season's Canadian Championships.

There's been on Canadian personal best so far at Skate America, from the pair team of Kirsten Moore-Towers/Dylan Moscovitch.  Their short program score of 61.64 beat their previous ISU personal best of 53.68, which was established at Skate Canada only two or three weeks ago.  This score was also their best short program score in any competion, ISU or not, ahead of their previous best of 54.86 from the Isabelle Henderson competition in Hamilton earlier this fall.

Only one further personal best was established by the Canadian skaters at Skate America, that being the short dance score of 59.48 by Weaver/Poje.  That score beat their previous short dance personal best of 58.69 from NHK.

There was one ISU personal best established by a Canadian skater on the first day of Cup of Russia.  That was by Myriane Samson, whose short program score of 53.26 beat her previous ISU personal best of 51.62 established recently at Skate Canada.  It was not her best short program score ever, however; that still remains her score of 53.67 from last season's Finlandia competition.
