Suede Boots
« on: June 10, 2012, 12:31:37 PM »
On the market for some proper fitting boots, since my foot is much wider than it was over a decade ago.

Since I'm coaching now, I'm considering suede boots.  I really think they look sharp.  Are they warmer than the typical elk leather?  If you spray a suede protector over the boot, is upkeep fairly simple?  Please share any experiences - no one in my area has them and I haven't been able to find any good reviews online.

One of our coaches used them. Didn't care for them; they were harder to keep up (suede gets "rubs" whereas smooth leather doesn't) and they weren't any more durable or warmer than smooth leather.  Also can't sk8tape them to avoid damage on vulnerable areas.

Thanks, Sk8tmum.  I'm trying to weigh the options between the two to justify spending the extra $ to go with the suede.  I don't plan on doing anything too difficult that would damage the exterior, however demonstrating lunges or T-stops can definitely make a boot snowy or wet.

I just got suede boots.  Anyone want to elaborate on why you can't sk8tape them?

I would assume bc you'd cover the suede which if you bought them to show off the suede would completely defeat the purpose.

I got suede because the model only came in suede.

My daughter's coach has a pair of pink suede Harlick boots. I would agree they are hard to keep clean. Her blue jeans also rubbed off on them shortly after she bought them. The lower part of the boot looks fine, it,s the ankle part that is bluish due to the denim dis coloring the suede. It does look pretty... But if you are worried about them getting dirty, I would opt for standard leather. Jmo
