New blades?
« on: June 05, 2012, 06:42:07 AM »
I got my blades sharpened, and when I picked my skates up today, the sharpener said that I probably only had two or three sharpens left in them.

I usually sharpen around every five-six weeks, so that would give me roughly four months before I have to get new blades.

I want to keep the same kind of blade - Coronation Ace, 10". Does anyone know the best places to buy them from? I'm going to have to get them from the States I think, everywhere here has them VERY expensive. The cheapest I've seen so far is discountskatewear for $186. Is this about right?

I don't think you'll get them much cheaper. Even in the UK where they are produced, they retail between $160 - $180 so once you add on import tax, 186 sounds about right.

$160 plus tax and shipping

http://www.tidewaterice.com/figure_skating_blades.htm (If you find them cheaper, tidewater matches prices)

I'm surprised the UK prices haven't gone down since the contract with Riedell expired.

The cheapest for cor aces (in the UK) I could see is £90.

Here and here. (The 2nd are winding down before moving to NZ shortly) No idea if either has your size in stock...

~£100 is normal for cor aces here. I got mine from Everglides as I got my boots from them too. (Their price includes UK postage - you'll have to contact them re international postage).

Probably not, if I could get them.

The blades were on my boots which were both secondhand, about a year and a half old when I bought them, and that would be two years ago this September, so obviously they lasted quite a long time. I definitely wouldn't object to a good, secondhand pair/gently used pair but I have no idea where to start looking...

I got my coronation aces at myskatingmall.com for a good price.
Does not hurt to keep an eye on it.
