2012 Skating Resolutions

What are your skating goals and objectives for 2012?  

What do you want to achieve or master?  
Acquisitions of equipment, resources or materials?

Off-ice training?  Testing, competing, demonstrating, coaching?

Right now, I'm a little worried about our financial position, so I won't be doing any testing or competing, but I will go back to working out off-ice and trying to regain my jumps.  (They moved out about 60 lbs ago)

I'm really hopeful for 2012. I now skate three days a week and I'm progressing so much better than I was with 2 days. Plus I start driving in August so that will help my skating, too.

So, the goals:
-Pass Juvenile moves.
-Have consistent doubles (semi-consistent acceptable for lutz and toe.)
-Land double-double combos.
-Skate my Preliminary program cleanly in competition.
-Choreograph and compete a Pre-juvenile program.

A lot of these are carried over from last year...

1. Stay healthy enough that I never have to take that long off the ice again!
2. Get back sit spin and broken leg; make consistent
3. Split, charlotte and fan spirals
4: Passable layback and maybe a haircutter
5: Land axel and maybe one double (2Lo?)
6. Start on a back camel?
7. Have moves up to level 5 standard, even if I don't test

My 2011 goal was to pass one Primary dance.  Foxtrot passed => goal completed.

My 2012 goal is to test (maybe even pass??) one Primary dance.

At this rate, Primary will take another 3 years...  :D

Glad to know I'm not the only one who just wants to be good enough to TAKE the test.  Passing will be a bonus.

2012 goals -

Compete adult sectionals and nationals (another comp would be great, but all these competitions require so much traveling and $$)
Learn and pass preliminary dances
Take Novice moves test by summer, pass by end of the year
Land double loop and double flip
Land double-double combination (at this point I don't care which one!)
Learn 2 sit variations
Increase flexibility so that I can do the splits again


...I'll need to post these on the fridge so I seem them EVERY DAY - otherwise it isn't going to happen!

2012:

1. Take and pass Senior Moves on 1/14.
2. Compete at Empire State Games and land a clean axel.
3. Land double sal clean.
4. When #3 is complete and consistent, test Intermediate Free.
5. Start real work on 2 toe and 2 loop.
6. Start dance when #1 is complete.

2012:

1.  Test and pass Pre-Bronze and Bronze moves and Pre-Bronze Freeskate (I think the next test session is tentatively planned for Feb, so I'll get an early start!  I expect these to be easy passes for me so it will be nice to knock out these tests without feeling much pressure)
2.  Test and pass Bronze Freeskate at the second test session of the year (coach and I think that the first test session is coming up too fast to be realistic in terms of polishing my program - we're still not done choreographing!  I expect an easy pass once that is ready though)
3.  Get Lutz back.. it's been close, and I've two-footed a few, but it still remains elusive.
4.  Get Axel back!
5.  Get a solid haircutter spin :)
6.  Have silver moves test-ready by the end of the year, even if I don't test them until 2013 (this depends not just on my confidence but also on the test schedule).
7.  Be working on (but not necessarily landing or even close to landing) at least one double jump - probably 2sal or 1loop since those are my favorite singles.
8.  Enter and compete in at least one competition.

I've already knocked off a few things I had been thinking about as goals for next year - which was to get a solid layback again and work on some sit variations, all of which were achieved very quickly.  I think it helps that I used to have a very solid layback, the only hurdle to get over was being brave enough to "go for it"... lately I've been doing them with 6-8 revs and they feel pretty good.

5. add an off-ice conditioning class and an off-ice choreography class.

Still working on 2008 minus solid forward three turns, plus a choctaw, and a complete prelim dances.

I would like to sit my Level 1 compulsory dance test and possibly L1 variation too (providing it still exists as there are potential dance test changes in the summer and we only hold very infrequent dance tests here. I've missed todays dance test session. :-\)

I'd love to have some kind of program by the end of the year - either for free dance or free skating.

I'd also love a consistent loop and flip, a centred upright spin and a camel with a couple of revs (that doesn't become an accidental flying camel every time :o)) and some kind of proper backspin too.  :-*

I'm also hoping my skating won't suffer too much when my rink shuts for ~12 weeks for maintenance in the summer...  It is going to be a struggle to get to another rink very often and depending on which rink we end up being able to get ice time at I may not get to skate much then at all. ::sad

1) Pass the Preliminary edges test
2) Pass the lowest level dance test (Dutch Waltz and Canasta Tango)

I'm confident 2) won't be a problem (coach thinks both are passable now), but I can't do 2) without doing 1) first. At the current rate it's probably not going to happen, and I'm resigned to that. If I can't pass the edges test by the time they change the test content mid-year, then I'll have to either set new goals or quit, as testing will no longer be an option.

(1) pass Silver MIF. I was very close last time and we have a test session next month!! Woo hoo!!
(2) pass bronze FS. And according to my coach I will be doing THIS in January as well. . . . :o ermmmmm, I have some work to do.
(3) get a good start on Gold MIF.
(4) Get a flip jump under my belt.
(5) Solidify my infantile camel spin so it's a realio trulio camel spin with 3+ revs.

2. Land loop (and flip???)
3. Get a sit or camel spin that would get counted (3 revs in correct position)
4. Skate my best in competition (don't care if I come last, just wanna be happy with how i've done)

I think these goals are feasible for me:

(1) Put Adult Bronze freeskate test program and practice it enough to figure out if I can test this (2012) year.

(2) Get Adult Silver Moves to the point where I can run-through/practice for a test in 2013.

(3) Get Flip jump consistent.

(4) Even if I have to skate on publics, strive to practice 6 hours a week.

(5) begin some serious work on both the camel spin and the lutz

(6) start ice dance lessons

(7) fit into my competition dress

These could be mine, except sub in my back instead of my knees lol! It comes & goes....along with my skating. I also want to get my camel but more importantly I want to get back to the gym and regain the strength I lost.

I asked dd and she said she wants to have consistent doubles (not including a consistent 2A).  She is happy to skate prepre this year, but I think she would like to be ready for preliminary in 2013.  She would like to take her juv moves and her intermediate moves this year.

My goals for her skating are to start socking money away for new skates/blades. 
Find a way to make extra money to support having more time with one of her coaches.  Once a week has made a huge difference, twice a week would be awesome.  ha ha!  Looking over the laundry list of goals...they are all money focused!

I'll add my non money related goal - to be able to stop in skates and find a pair of used skates that are decent for myself.

     × Lose 60 pounds by 2012 end

     × Skate for an entire 2 hours without having to get off the ice, while actively doing things. [Standing on ice counts! :-D]

     × The above exactly the same MINUS the standing addition.

     × Accomplish at least ONE Basic level, if one is achieved by mid-year then make that 2 in one year.

     × Stick with my nutritional ideas/goals -- Oatmeal and Tuna fish taste nice.

     × Not upset my girlfriend [This counts as on-ice as well, because I could potentially upset her on the ice! :-p]

First time posting skating resolutions. 

1.  Participate in 3 competitions. 
2.  Perform my freeskate and artistic light 3 times each, either in competitions or exhibitions.
3.  Find music for and learn an artistic dramatic program.  Perform 2 times, in competition or exhibition.
4.  Get sit spin lower. It's beyond pathetic despite trying really hard for a couple of years.
5.  Put together a Bronze FS program in hopes of testing in 2013.  This requires accomplishment of #4. 
6.  Work on Silver moves.  Goal to test in 2014 but with current level of accomplishment, this might be 'The Impossible Dream' just like #5.
7.  Work on speed and power.

This list is a little depressing.  I once thought I'd have tested Bronze FS by now.  Thinking I have hit the limits of my ability.  I still love skating, though.

1.  Get prelim moves to the point of being testable.  May not test them until 2013 due to scheduling, but at least have them to the point that when a suitable test session does come up, I am reasonably likely to pass.
2.  Get reliable lutz back.
3.  Get at least one loop combo back (most likely flip/loop as the flip is my best solo jump).
4.  Full rotation on axel, even if I fall.
5.  Lose a bunch of weight...probably 50 pounds.  I did really well on Weight Watchers a number of years ago and need to get back to that.
