I take it your daughter is a skate guard?  I've never heard them referred to as "rink rats" unless they're one of the skaters who always seem be at the rink for one reason or another.  Some skate guards I've met meet that bill, but far from all. (Some can barely skate.)  Adding to the confusion: "Rink Rats" is the name of the LTS program for the pre-school aged hockey skaters here, so it's an insult to call a teenager a "rink rat" because it means a beginner hockey player, lol.

ITA - the rules should apply to everyone, fairly.

And I thought I interpreted "rink rats" wrong all along! Sounds like she's a good guard,
someone who takes the responsibilities seriously and actually guards.

They call them rink rats/rink patrols/skate patrols/skate guards ... and, interestingly, there was a comment that it was "nice" to have someone who could really skate doing the job ! (she's a Gold test level skater ... :) )

If I was asked to stop doing something, I might roll my eyes behind their back, but I wouldn't argue. I would only really be annoyed if I was stopped from doing something reltively safe like an upright spin, while other people weren't stopped from zooming in and out of the coned off area or throwing ice for example.

Your daughter sounds like one of the good ones! I think if there were more like that, there would be less of a problem on public sessions

Hmmm..  If I saw the sign I probably wouldn't  but then I'd also try not to pay attention to signs if the ice was more or less empty.  They say ignorance is bliss.
