When I first started skating again, I was 27.  There was always a group of 11-12 year old girls who did LTS together and liked to show me all the stuff they'd learned on the Sat public session.  When they'd ask me how old I was, I'd say, "How old do you think I am?"  The answer was almost always 16 or thereabouts.  Which just made my day!   :)  Loved those girls!

While I fit in one of the current categories, this poll needs a "65 or older" category for when some of us reach that milestone.

It's just a few years off, and I fully intend to skate then - especially since I'll be retired with much more time on my hands.

That was fast!

I didn't need it for 3-1/2 more years.  :D

Filling in this poll while I still fit into the 31-40 grouping. Don't think I'm mentally ready to check the category that ends in 50! :D

New fangled iron age skaters have it way too easy.

Sharpened bone was the way to go.

I'm 44, I started skating 5 years ago when I signed my son up for Ice Tots.  I'm currently working on Bronze moves and Pre-Bronze Free.  Glad I stumbled on this forum!

I have completed over five decades of life, and have been skating for over three decades.

Proof: Just started skating in Jan. this year.

I'm 58 but people don't think I look that old.  I think skating keeps us young looking - perhaps being in the cold rinks helps preserve our faces!

25...but I can pass for 21
pretty close to you there myself LOL and I can still be mistaken for a teenager if I am in the same group as a bunch of them - happened the other day, while I appreciate the 'look young' I really hate been mistaken for one because I soo don't connect with that age group any more!

I actually prefer to hang out with the teenagers at the rink sometimes! They're generally a really nice bunch of girls

One thing I love about skating is that everyone is the same age.  Doesn't matter if you're a kid, teen, young adult or 80 years old.   We all have skating  in common and it's easy to get to know people well.  I've moved twice as an adult skater and I think the transitions have been much easier because I've had a built in base of people who share my passion.   : )

I think you might be on to something, I'm not bothered at skating that I'm with kids of 8+ (other than the fact some just don't have the maturity to be able to connect with) but I find the teenagers far more identifiable than in other situations. The example springs to mind that I went to help out at a launch party for the sponsors of our local Santa parade but because physically my dimensions are the same as many teenagers I get put in with them but they sit around giggling about school and other kids their age and I simply can't identify with them.

On ice the people I skate with are about my level or just above but we are all there for one reason - to learn....Maybe its the kind of people attracted to skating or  that a common goal is more unifying??
