Skatingforums.com - Gamified Skating - Summer 2016

This summer's skatingforums.com Challenge is ... power stroking.
Bragging rights are still the only prize, but personal achievements rock!

Below are very easy exercises for experienced skaters, but everyone can use a little more power and speed so advanced drills aren't really necessary for this Challenge.

Ready?  Here is the Summer Challenge:

1) Take a baseline measurement of your forward stroking, forward crossovers and backward crossovers.  Record these statistics in your log:

Forward Stroking - time and number of strokes to get from one end of the rink to the other.  (Longest side - you probably want to note your rink's size if you're going to compare with others on the board.)

Forward Crossovers - time and number of crossovers on each side to skate in a Figure 8 pattern across the shorter axis of your rink.  (Again: YMMV based on rink size.)

Backward Crossovers - time and number of crossovers on each side to skate in a Figure 8 pattern across the shorter axis of your rink.  (Again: YMMV based on rink size.)

Tip: Perform each exercise 3-4 times and then record the average for each statistic.

2) At least weekly, perform these exercises and record the results.  You should be striving to skate with more power and speed by making every push count, aligning your body properly, controlling movement and thereby reducing the number of strokes needed.

Lurkers get no respect. Skaters are on the honor system for all challenges; post to log your progress.  Video bloggers are welcome to share their progress, which is why this topic is in the members-only forum.   If you need/have advice, just ask.

This challenge closes on 9/1 so get gamified with skatingforums.com!
