I use a bunga "boot bumper" which has both a gel pad in the heel area of the sock as well as a rectangle of gel over the instep to prevent laces bite.  I find that the heel pad helps hold my heels in place and the lace bite gel also contributes to taking up a little space so that my foot stays put:  http://www.bungapads.com/bunga-boot-bumper-bb-en.html  NB: bunga also sells the sock with just the heel pad or just the lace bite pad if you think both would be too much of a good thing.  These are not cheap but they work for me.  Note that bunga pads are sold individually if you just need to deal with one foot.

What boots do you have?  If they are heat-moldable, you can have a skate tech heat them and squeeze them in to fit your heels snugly (assuming they are not waaay too big).

Jacksons

Which model?  The higher-end Jacksons are heat-moldable.  Check on the Jackson website for your model boot and see whether they are heat-moldable, or ask your skate tech.

Linda, I have had extensive problems w/ my right heel. Here's al the things I've done. Try one or a combination to see if it helps. I use all three simultaneously in the right boot.

step 1. FREE! Change the way you lace your boots Second image from the top, lacing method on the right of the image. I use this.
step 2. the gel tube--this is step 2 because it costs money.
step 3. Getting deep in the heel

PS: I found heat molding the heel in my case to be completely worthless. After a couple hours skating it didn't fit.
Every other tip I have for almost every other boot issue.

I had the same problem before. I used cosmetic pads to keep my heels in place. It was an okay fix until I was doing back 3-turns. My coach told me my skates were half-size too big, and my heels too wide.

Cheap: A little tape or adhesive foam under the heel of the insole, until it fits snug.

If there is side to side motion, there must be empty space beside the heel, so let the tape or foam come up a little (bend so it doesn't stick to your foot) beside the heel.

If there is forward back motion, there must be empty space behind the heel, so let the tape or foam come up a little (bend again) behind the heel.

What I finally had done, after years of having my right heal slip in my skates, is get my feet measured in all ways possible by the Riedell representative here in Canada. I had to travel out of town to another city to have it done and it did take a few tries to get my skates right but it worked. I ended up with semi-custom skates because although the ball of my feet have basically the same width, the arch area and especially the heals are different. the loose heal was the reason I was having difficulty doing loop jumps.

Does the OP wear super feet or other inserts in the boot?
