Blade Survey 2013
« on: September 17, 2013, 03:00:52 PM »
Goldenskate is hosting an online blade survey.  It's a collection of opinion questions regarding brands of skates and particularly, blades.

LINK: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/thegoldenskatesurvey2013

There's no closing date, but the first screen says that "All completed surveys will be entered into a monthly draw where two lucky winners will each receive a pair of competition blades worth over $400!"  Worth answering a few questions just for the sweeps entry.  It does ask for your name, City/State/Zip, email, gender, age group and category (Recreational Skater, Competitive Skater, Coach and Parent/Guardian.)

There is one question regarding where you research skates and blades.  I know many people use our message board as a critical place to research and discuss purchases.  If you would, please give us credit for this by answering this question with "www.skatingforums.com"  Thanks.

Did it. Think my PB skating status will win me a set of competitive blades?  ;D

Thanks - interesting survey - hoping to win the blades of course but wondering what exactly they mean by "competitive blades'

also seemed skewed somewhat towards questions about Reidell and Jackson -

It will be interesting to see the results of the survey.

Thanks all!

I answered on behalf of my students, who are all recreational skaters.  I was very honest, saying their choices are more influenced by appearance than technical features, their parents by $$ and I by quality.

Christy - I think it'll be a random draw.  The real question is what will you do with the top-end blades if you win?

Interesting that Wilson and MK stopped their monthly Facebook giveaways.  The prize might be a pair of blades from those brands.  (Just a guess, no insider info.)

I forgot to give credit for this: I found out about it via a promotional email from the PSA.

I just did the survey--interesting because I *just* got my very first pair of skates and was more concerned about boot fit than blade.

Mentioned the forums as one of my information sources. :)

Well, I know a LOT about blades (I think I do anyway) but I think part of this was that it was a very poorly written and seemed to be targeting towards how people are experiencing the "new blade technology" - so if you haven't been in this sport a long time or haven't changed the type of blade you are skating on (who has hte $$$ to be trying out all of these blades???) then a lot of the survey was not meaningful.

Even the way they asked about price was confusing -

I took this survey a while back and I have a feeling it's sponsored by either Jackson or Paramount since the whole thing seemed strongly biased towards "new technology" - and I agree that the way many questions were worded was very odd.

ITA that section was confusing.  They should have used a different scale, like cheap to expensive.

I thought it might be sponsored by Riedell since they now have their own lines of both blades and boots.

The part where we were to write a comment about each brand, for Riedell I wrote: I didn't know Riedell made blades.
