AN does not have leveled step sequences, probably due to the large number of skaters who are used to 6.0. I don't want to force leveled steps on the championship competitors. Instead I'd like to see a competition that is just leveled steps. Skater gets ~1 minute to skate to music, receives a level + GOE. The event should be cheap since little ice time is used. Either no test is required, or a certain moves test is required.
Are there other things people would like to see at AN? Short programs? Figures? Synchro?
It was originally leveled steps or leveled spirals. When the levels were removed from spirals, there was the disparity of getting higher leveled steps than choreographic spiral which is why it went to all choreographic (has nothing to do with 6.0 or IJS skaters, has to do with the fairness issues).
Since a lot of people are already pushing their limit on #of events (for scheduling purposes, no one is allowed more than 4 events because people have events spread across levels), there wouldn't be much call for your footwork event AND when would you do it? As the schedule stands currently, it is jam packed W-Saturday and there is savings currently in place since IJS events don't start until Thursday on the normal schedule (IJS equipment rental).
Synchro already has it's own nationals. They like being with their Senior, Junior, Novice, et al mates.
Free dance at the lower levels or solo free dance has it's probable supporters.
There's no time for most adults to train a short program in addition to a FS and dance or interps and for a level like Bronze, how short do you make it?
