Has anyone tried these?  Supposedly, the d30 pads are flexible until impact, when they solidify to provide shock absorption.

Wow! very interesting.  Not sure I'd be able to feel confident that they would not react a split second too late  :sweat 
The knee pads are priced competitively with skatingsafe crash pads. For now anyway, wonder how much they'll go up after the intro rate?

I used to buy $10 closed-cell foam camping mats and cut them up to make my own crash pads (which I'd just shove into place under tights or pants).. I am not sure that I could be persuaded to spend that much money on a pair of pants with built in padding.... I don't know that it's worth it.

I think it's overkill, no pun intended.  The d30 material was designed for motorcyclists, to prevent road rash if they lose control of their bike.

That much money to prevent your skin from being peeled off on I-95?  Fine.
For ice skating, no.

I'll be 60 in a few months, and I think if it helped me keep from breaking a hip, it might be worth it. Unfortunately, it's probably not available in my size.

I've seen it advertised in hats--not helmets. That might be worth a try.

What was wrong with plain old shock absorption gel? Now we have d30?

Think I'll stick with my free hand-me-down UltraCrashes.

They are reusable, which I had wondered about. 


THIS is interesting though: they make forefoot and heel inserts for insoles to absorb shock from jumps.   That would protect a landing foot really well; I don't know if it would stop the broken toes and bones that the men have been prone to from toeing-in.  (Ex: Lysacek and his Quad Toe Loop.)
