A few questions for those who have been to the week-long August camp previously... I'm really contemplating attending it this year!

1) do the adult skaters generally socialise outside of ice time? I'd be going by myself but would love to meet other adult skaters to hang out with between sessions
2) at what time does the Saturday exhibition end? Would I be able to leave Lake Placid that evening at a reasonable hour (say no later than 5 PM), or should I book an extra night for my stay?
3) what is there to do other than skate every day? There's no way I can skate from 8 AM to 8 PM, but as I'd be alone, are there are enough tourist activities to keep oneself busy throughout the week without being exhausted? Most of the tourist websites I've seen cite hiking, enjoying the lake, and visiting the Olympic museum, but that doesn't take up a whole week, does it?
4) do the group classes accomodate various levels? I don't jump nor spin, but I'm working on the higher-level dances. I'm debating whether to try a series of group classes or spend the money on private lessons instead (any coach recommendations?).
5) is there an option to test at the end of the week, and can you take Skate Canada tests? Based on the schedule, I'd try to skate all 3 dance sessions per day, and I have some dances that could be ready to test by the end of the week at that practice and potential lesson rate.
6) any other information you'd like to share to convince me how awesome it would be for me to go?

1. Here's my series of blog posts on Lake Placid. Things change year to year.
http://icedoesntcare.blogspot.com/p/lake-placid-skate-camp-review.html

2. Yes people do socialize afterwards, but it's like any vacation, if you make a friend or two then you'd socialize with them. There used to be a reception on Sunday arrival night, last year it was just a very watered down affair and it was not much more than a check in and meet and greet some coaches. There's a Wednesday curling or casino night that is a group social. I've never been to one of these since I'm way too tired.

3. I don't know what time the exhibition will end. They've changed it a couple of times.

4. There are tours and so on of the lake and it's fun to do once. Shopping the main street occupies a lot of people. There's the olympic center, but I don't think you get to watch the athletes train. Some people like to hike. I think there's a golf course, but that's hiking with frustration. Also there's fishing.

5. The classes do do different levels. There's plenty of classes that cover things like turns, and spins, etc. Mark Fenzack teaches dance and he does a really good job breaking down the dances. There are other dance coaches, but you don't know who will be there until for group until you see the  schedule.
6. You also can try classes in figures and edges and explore skills you wouldn't touch otherwise.
7. I don't know about CanSkate. Testing is before the adult camp, so you'll have to get more info on the schedule.
Yes I'm in with the 90's. I have a skating blog. http://icedoesntcare.blogspot.com/

Thanks, AgnesNitt! I'd checked out your blog already, and that answered very many questions for me. Thanks for the additional insight.

It appears that there's only one just before the adult camp starts (likely for the kids), but nothing afterwards.
Is there a test session at the end of the week?
