Lysacek said he was not worried that the injury, which he sustained in early August, could keep him out for the season... He said the injury occurred when his leg slipped on gravel while he was doing warm-up lunges outside the rink... "I kept skating on it for a few days, and that possibly made it worse," he said. "When I couldn't walk or skate, I stopped."
The Medal Winners Open also took place, featuring a big-name field of Olympic and World champions and medalists from the past two few decades. 2008 World champion Jeffrey Buttle, who also competed in the Japan Open, took the men's title, with 2006 Olympic champion Shizuka Arakawa winning the ladies' event. Japan nationals men's event is such a bloodbath... Extremely competitive and well skated, definitely not "last man left standing" kind of competition. Wow just wow. Nervous for long programs tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva led after the short program, but withdrew due to illness today.
She somehow showed up after all, fought through it and finally WON the national title!!!!
