already assembled skate guards
« on: November 07, 2012, 08:37:22 PM »
I've bought two-piece hard guards a couple of times from a site that, if you gave them your blade size, they'd assemble them for you. The price was comparable to other sites. But I can't find the site now. Anyone know?

No...these were ordinary inexpensive Guard dog guards. Maybe whatever site it was no longer offers the assembly. Oh well.

I bought mine online together with my skates -- the blade guards already came in pre-cut and pre-assembled. It was bestbuyfigureskating.com. They have a shop in Anaheim Ice. They assemble your skates too if you buy directly from the store.

It seems like you could email various stores and ask if they could do it. Most pro shops offer the service, so with a called in order, they probably could.

Saw this tool for cutting skate guards:

$120 for one tool is too expensive for my budget, but I'll bet Sears sells something comparable for less.

Rockerz Video:

This is a really excellent video for fitting any two-piece skate guards!  (The penguins do sway my favor, though.)

One of my skating dads bought his DD new guards and I suggested having the pro shop guy cut them to fit.  He told me (very proudly) that his wife would take care of the measuring and cutting.  She has a "heated knife" that she uses.  Clever idea!
