Looking for skating opportunities near our trip and found the following from one outdoor rink:

One of the most graceful winter sports you'll ever experience, ice skating offers a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle around you. Strap on your skates and leave everything else behind. You'll practically float around the ring as you enjoy the breathtaking views.

The rink I started skating at was beautiful - rinkside views of a pond, woods and walking trails leading to the rest of the Park.  You would never believe you were in NYC once you got on the ice.
"If you still look good after skating practice, you didn't work hard enough."
