Holiday Gift Ideas for skaters and coaches . . .
« on: November 07, 2014, 10:11:25 PM »
So, what do you want for Christmas, that is skating related?

Here is mine:
   - packs of skating stockings & socks
   - new skating pants and long sleeve shirts
   - one year supply of tissues
   - 10 pairs of new, black stretchy gloves
   - freestyle session card
   - gift certificate for a custom made dress (Griffies or Sharene)

Now, what to give my coach? She's the tough one to buy for.

For me: skating pants, transpack, crossovers :)

My coach is getting cash and booze. Can't do anything edible for kids' coach for health reasons, so I need to think of something cute/thoughtful to give along with cash. He's been coaching since I was a kid, so I am pretty sure he has every typical skating coach gift there is.

For me? More lessons and practice time. Also, I need new shoes for everyday use... and fabric for making trousers... and I'd really love a new overlocker.

The lasses? Practice time, better boots and 1:1 coaching - in that order!
Will do almost anything for pizza.

'Hot Hands' toe warmers for the coaches.
(I still got the hand warmers in my shoes, from when we bailed out early from the football game.)
 ~ I should be writing~

For me...New socks, gloves, and boots.  The annual public skate pass would also be lovely.

Lacking ideas on the coach. Thinking a Starbucks card, but am really not sure.  We've only done a handful of lessons thus far, so I'm still trying to get a feel for what she likes.

Coach: nice card and cash equal to 2 weeks of lessons. Maybe a gas card from my cc points.

Friends at the rink: a batch of cookies in early December or some cupcakes if I don't feel like cooking.

They may be gone by now, but last week I went to ULTA and for $10 bought a 'hair care' canvas bag. It looks a lot like a freestyle bag so many little girls put on the boards but it's black  and much better made than anything I've seen kids carry . I plan to fill it with little tchotskes like foot cream, iphone friendly gloves, hand cream, a new blade towel, maybe a winter scarf and whatever little thing can fit in there. Plus it's got pockets for water bottles, and internal pocket for stuff.

REALLY REALLY well made.

Anyway you could post a photo? I've been looking for an alternative to the Kiss and Cry bags.

Sorry , it's in the car and we're getting freezing rain.

I only found them in 1 out of 3 ULTA's as in-store promotions. Anyway, here's something similar:

(In fact I think this may be exactly the same but with a different name printed on it. Black canvas -- the picture doesn't do it justice-- and when it's folded out it has  hard bottoms for the two large pockets and the side pockets are big enough for a soda, and one side of the bag has interior pockets for brushes and stuff) Anyway it was $10 at Ulta since it had demo hair products in it. Get it at Ulta if you can.

Here's some other stuff like it.

That bag would also be great for under my cabinets, to store my own hair appliances!

Thanks. I don't have an Ulta close so wanted to take a look before driving. I take tissues, water, phone, guards, binder (notebook) out to the boards with me so I'd like something to put it in. I'm not opposed to the Kiss and Cry, I'd just love to spend a little less on it. Plus, I'm not a 12yo girl (although I do have a personalized, blinged, Zuca so I guess that is debatable). Maybe I can make something...

My skating related Christmas present is head protection. I have been told that I may NOT get back on the ice without it since I just wound up in the ER/ICU with a concussion. UGH. At least I got two weeks off work out of it.

I didn't know what a "Kiss and Cry" bag was until now.  I looked them up online.  Are they insane? $55 for a canvas tote bag with outside pockets?? :o  I know you can find something cheaper and decorate it yourself.  Try Michaels.  Or if you need more than 5, a company called (politically incorrect) Oriental Trading.  You get a dozen for an affordable price.

My coach will probably get  small gold hoop earrings.  That's what she wears.  What do I want???

1. Evening freestyle sessions
2. All of my jumps and spins
3. 55 less pounds
Seriously, I believe I have all the skating gear I can stand.  However, I may purchase a plain canvas tote bag with outside pockets and decorate it myself.

Mostly. Just in the recovery phase now. I'll know more with my trauma followup tomorrow.

Michaels has a similar bag (in stores, didn't find it online) for (everyone sit down now.....) $12.99.  And I'm buying myself one!  Would have done it today, but I had an armful of groceries and as a crazy woman, decided to walk the 6 miles to the store and back.  Only made it half way back before I gave in and took a bus.  But.... $12.99!!!  Only in black, no words on it.  Decorate as you see fit!!!
