Ice Dance group classes in Maryland

According to

  http://www.parkpass.org/Activities/Activities.asp?SCheck=228187021&SDT=41378.5873032407&ComplexId=0&NextPageValue=NextButton&RecordStart=21

The ice rink in Cabin John Maryland will host an "Ice Dancing Fundamentals" class on Saturdays 5/4/2013-6/15/2013 at 11:00-11:45 AM

"Prerequisite: Gamma (Level 5) or equivalent skating ability.
Introduction to basic ice dancing steps, including progressives, chasses, swing rolls, three-turns and mohawks. Partnering, posture, dance positions and timing will also be covered. We'll combine all these elements doing the Dutch Waltz, Canasta Tango, Rhythm Blues and Swing Dance."

Be forewarned that Cabin John sometimes cancels classes if there is not enough interest.

Also, Wheaton Ice Arena is again hosting an Ice Dance clinic 8/19-8/23, taught by the instructors of the Wheat Ice Skating Academy. It says ages 6 and up. I don't know if adults are welcome - it's been done both ways in the past. The Wheaton clinic would be at a higher skating level than Cabin John's classes, including competitors, and might run 6 hours/day, on and off-ice. They were a lot of fun in the past.

Needless to say, with 40 or so DC area rinks, many run classes and clinics. But ice dance classes that I know about is all I include here.

Some rinks offer a summer skating lesson program for adult in lieu of a camp or clinic.

Quote
Colonial Figure Skating Club

Whether you are seeking an alternative fitness program or want to take your skating skills to the next level, the Colonial Adult Figure Skating class is the perfect program for you.

Class includes 30 minutes of a lesson and 30 minutes of free skate/practice time.

Please bring skates, mittens or gloves and warm, layered clothing. Registration Deadline: July 24.

#ADSKATESU13

Wednesday, Beg. 7/31
Session 1: 4:00-5:00 pm
Session 2: 5:15-6:15 pm

5 weeks

Nashoba Valley Olympia, 34 Mass. Ave, Boxborough

$100
Additional fees: A one-time $25 USFSA Registration fee is required for each skater and payable directly to Colonial Figure Skating Club.

This would be really good for someone who wants to start skating or wants to do something different for the summer season.  It's obviously a basic skills class, but if you were to ask about a higher-level class for adults, it might be added.

Has anyone heard about International Skating Center of Connecticut summer camp? I'd like to send my child there. Would appreciate some reviews.

Someone sent their skater last year and thought it was good.  She was impressed by the fact that they were on the ice with Russian skating legends.  Didn't write much about what the campers did, though.  She thought it was a unique format but I think it's pretty standard for expensive camps.

Saw this on the Greensboro (NC) Ice House Facebook page:

Gary Shortland, Senior Rated Dance Professional, National & International Competitor & National Coach will tentatively conduct a seminar on Saturday, March 30th from 4:15-7:15pm at the GIH. The focus of the seminar will be twizzles, choctaws, progressives, etc., along with executing expressiveness by skating with deeper knee action and greater extensions. The seminar will likely be divided into two segments; youth and adult. Each segment (youth & adult) will run approx. 1.5/hrs. APPROXIMATE cost per skater will be roughly $40. I need at least 20 skaters to commit in order to ensure I have sufficient interest to cover costs.

Eligible youth skaters will have passed Preliminary Moves or higher.
Eligible adult skaters will be proficient at forward and backward skating.
Remember, cost and specific time segments are approximate.

Contact Nicole if you're interested in committing. niceskate18@gmail.com 336-852-1515
Gary Shortland is my coach. woot! woot! I should ask him if they're doing this again in 2014.
If you're not falling, you're not working hard enough...
