ISU Seeking New Site for 2011 Worlds for April or May
« on: March 22, 2011, 01:08:54 PM »
I just saw this in today's NYT:

"The International Skating Union asked members capable of hosting the worlds in late April or early May to send offers by Tuesday. The I.S.U. said such countries needed an arena with at least 8,000 seats as well as a practice rink, about 700 hotel rooms and ability to televise the event."

According to Yahoo! news, Russia is the frontrunner alternate.  Putin himself announced their offering to host the Worlds towards the end of April.

The proposed timeframe is during the PSA/ISI Conference and the USFSA Governing Council meetings, not that it really matters.

Governing Council is late April (27-30), but PSA/ISI Conference is late May...

Six Countries Bid for Worlds

The PSA/ISI Conference is May 24, not April, so no conflict.  (I still have butterflies in my stomach from the sudden fear that I had made a mistake when I bought my tickets!)

Sorry, I really have to look at a calendar before I post.

The ISU has reviewed all applications received and after careful evaluation the ISU Council decided to allot the Championships to the Figure Skating Federation of Russia, to be held in the Megasport Arena in Moscow/Russia, on April 24-May 1, 2011.

Hope they do a tribute to the 1961 US Team and the original host country of Japan.  They are all in our thoughts and prayers.
