Wow - after 50 years without a public ice skating facility, the Bronx is getting a rink!

Locals were thrilled last week to learn that they will have their first public ice skating rink in the borough in 50 years.

Van Cortlandt Park will be the site of the new rink, said Mayor Bloomberg, in one of the few heartwarming items in his State of the City speech.

"In the Bronx, we'll join with the Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy to do something that has been talked about for more than a decade: we'll turn unused tennis courts into an ice skating rink open all winter long," Bloomberg said.
