Title: Ann Arbor (MI) Ice Cube Rink
Post by: Isk8NYC on November 29, 2010, 10:40:35 AM
My kids are skating at the Dr. Porter Synchro Classic this weekend and I figured I'd do some planning beforehand.

Any tips on the Ann Arbor Ice Cube rink, like locker rooms, snack bar, etc?
Is the rink as cold as the name sounds, brrrr?
How far from the Detroit airport is the rink?
Are there any supermarkets or stores nearby where I could pick up last-minute necessities?

Restaurant recommendations would also be appreciated!  Thanks very much.

The Cube is a great facility.  There's a mezzanine that overlooks one (or 2) of the surfaces.  Typical snack bar.  I'd say 1.5 hours from dtw.  There's lots of great food choices in AA depending what you like.

Actually the Detroit Airport is about a 45 minute drive to Ann Arbor and I think the Ice Cube is on the southern rim of A2 and so it may even be closer.

I used to live there.

Thanks for the info.  It looks like our hotel is about 4 miles away, so we'll have to travel there together by bus, but there are restaurants within walking distance.  It's just an overnight trip, so I doubt we'll have a lot of free time for sightseeing, but we're on our own for Saturday lunch & dinner so I wanted to check out our options.

I am tempted to bring my skates, but there probably won't be any open ice.  (I'm not competing - just the kiddies.)

How's the pro shop?  I could use some help with my blankety-blank blade alignment.
