Keeping your car cool
On another forum, I've been exploring ways to keep my car cooler, among other reasons, so I can keep my boots in the car in the summer without damage, or undoing the heat molding.
A good white paint job would cost about $5000.
The roof could be "wrapped" with a white vinyl cover, but that would be hard to do with my roof racks. A pop-up sunroof would weaken the roof, and I sometimes put heavy things on the racks.
I already have fairly light surface seat covers and steering wheel covers.
My particular car has a lot of window space, all tilted strongly outwards, letting in a lot of light. I haven't found a windshield sunshade large enough to completely cover it, though I could cut one out of reflective insulation material. I might need to stuff a sweater under it to make it stand upright.
But there are custom black-out sunshades that could cover all the windows completely. If the outer surfaces aren't reflective, I could glue or tape on that reflective material.
I could risk using window vents or cracking windows open - might interfere with the fit of some sunshades.
The direction the car faces into the sun affects inside temperature. Sometimes backing a car into a parking space, or finding one with another orientation, affects the temperature. Plus, some parts of the car get hotter than others.
