Exercise Charts & Apps
« on: April 10, 2015, 08:36:07 PM »
I'm doing off ice training class and also PT.  For PT especially, the exercises and stretches are not standard.  I'm taking videos of some to make sure I don't forget the details/cues form the PT and they're getting to be a lot.

I'd love some program or app or chart or some way to list and track the exercises and maybe add a short video to it.

Anyone have a system, chart or app that can do all this?  App would have to accept custom exercises.  TIA

I just downloaded one called Seconds, which is mostly intended for circuit training (e.g. 30 second exercise, 10 second break, etc) but the times and exercises can be customized.  Custom workouts can only be saved and reused later if you get the paid version, which I haven't done.  Not sure this is really what you're looking for, though.  There are also productivity apps that track activities (Way of Life, Fig, Chains, SimpleGoals are the ones I've played with a bit) but I don't think you can add video to them.

What about a daily journal type of app like day one? I think you can add photos and video -
 definitely photos!

It wouldn't give you stats like a workout app would though. :/

I don't need stats I don't think.  Just want to remember everything and have it all in a convenient place.  Thanks.

If you just want to list everything and check off when you've done them, I'm also a big believer in Excel spreadsheets. You could put it up on Dropbox or something to access from your phone.  (Again, no way to embed videos so far as I know.)

I've been uploading videos to dropbox.  One folder for off-ice and on-ice coaching and one for PT.  Maybe a spreadsheet there would make sense.  I didn't know I could do spreadsheets there but I guess that makes sense.

It used to be that you could view Excel files via Dropbox on the phone but not edit them; I think that has changed but I haven't checked into it yet.

If that doesn't work, you could do a google doc spreadsheet - you can definitely edit those on your phone

You mention on ice coaching - do you video your lessons?

I video some of the lesson, not the whole thing.

Seems like it would be hard to decide what to video, where to set up, etc lol!!

I just video any new things we're working on (holding my phone).  I have a large capacity phone now though so I may try and video the whole lesson Friday.

Cool, I'm curious to hear how that turns out.

Also, just realized Evernote may work great for you if you're looking for recording info over data/metrics

Thanks @littlerain!  I just got an e-mail this morning for some Evernote webinars and I am going to try and watch them, for the more advanced features.

Awesome! Hope you like the app. I use it for my blog and hadn't really thought to use it for skating like this. I might give it a try too :)
