USFSA Adult Skating Reference Links
« on: September 17, 2010, 02:29:30 PM »
Below are some links to info about the USFSA adult skating and competition structure. Everyone is welcome to add to the list.

U.S. Adult Skating Competitive Events - (one minor error - this chart is from 2008, so I have no idea why it lists Young Adult and Adult Introductory as comp levels; I believe the YA levels were abolished when the age requirement was lowered to 21 in 2005)

Thanks for the list of resources!

It looks like the link to the Adult MIF videos has moved here: https://web.archive.org/web/20140227002004/http://www.usfsa.org/Shell.asp?sid=35082

The Waltz 8 video has always annoyed me in the way it starts in the middle without showing the strike.
Yes I'm in with the 90's. I have a skating blog. http://icedoesntcare.blogspot.com/

Technically you can do introductory steps on this one, so I can see why the video doesn't start with a strike (yes, I was surprised too when my coach mentioned this.. none of the other "figures" moves allow them).

I was surprised about the entry steps being allowed on a Waltz 8.  I don't teach them that way.

Saw this on the Adult Skating committee's Facebook page:

Do you have questions about adult skating? We have answers. From competition eligibility and test prerequisites to required elements and rule changes, there’s a lot to ask and a lot to learn. Here are 4 important resources for finding answers to your questions (hint: the answer is not on Facebook).

USFS Rulebook:
https://usfigureskating.org/story?id=84114

Download the PDF version and save it on your computer. The rulebook can be overwhelming, so we recommend navigating it by searching for keywords. Use CTRL+F on a PC or Command+F on a Mac, then search for your topic. For example, if you’re wondering about the test prerequisites for Adult Silver Moves in the Field, search for “Adult Silver Moves” or “Adult Silver MIF” to find your answer.

Adult Skating Page:
http://usfigureskating.org/adultskating

Our page on the USFS website contains ample information for adult skaters. Our committee regularly updates the content to make sure it’s current. We created a “vanity URL” to make it easier for adult skaters to quickly access the page. Simply visit usfigureskating.org/adultskating. There’s also a lot of information there, so we recommend navigating the page through search features, just like with the rulebook.

Technical Info Page:
https://usfigureskating.org/story?id=84112

Adult skating has its own tab on the USFS Technical Info page. From pattern dance selections to adult calling clarifications, a great deal of useful information for skaters, coaches and officials can be found here.

Adult Skating Leadership:

So you’ve visited the rulebook and the adult skating page, but you still don’t have your answer? Don’t worry. The leadership members of the Adult Skating Committee are happy to assist you. In the left navigation on the adult skating page, select “Leadership.” From there, find a contact who can assist with your topic in question. If you’re unsure of the right person, contact the Chair. By contacting our committee, you’ll receive an official response from a reputable source. Reach out to us!

I am looking for Adult Bronze Freestyle Test requirements, but I can’t find them anywhere. My coach says , there have been some changes. Do you guys have any information about the elements that need to be included? Thank you very much!

The website reorg is causing a lot of confusion because the old site was hard to navigate, so everyone used bookmarks to find things and now, the bookmarks don't work and searching the site is useless.  Arrrgh.

The Rulebook is on the website under: Skate / Test Structure / Scroll down until you see the "U. S. Figure Skating Rulebook" link.
https://www.usfigureskating.org/about/rules

Inside the USFSA Rulebook, review these sections:

6212 The adult free skate tests are divided into eight classes ... (Prerequisite tests)
6311 Adult Pre-Bronze Free Skate Test - Page 181  (Intro)
6560 Adult Pre-Bronze Singles - Page 203 (Requirements Competition/Testing)

If you log into the website, you can find the judging forms.  (LOGIN (top corner) / Testing / Test Forms / Free Skate / Adult Bronze / Judging Form)
https://www.usfigureskating.org/system/files/Adult-pre-bronze-fs.pdf

Sadly, the Moves in the Field checklists are not on the new website, as far as I can find.  Fortunately, I had saved copies before the site was taken down.  You can probably get at them via the Internet Archive.
