Alpine Ice, Christchurch, New Zealand
« on: January 01, 2020, 03:50:32 AM »
Air quality:  Really bad fumes.
Ice: Hard, fast, and loud.  It felt a bit bigger than NHL sized.
Location:  Convenient to the center of Christchurch.  It's hard to find.  It's just past a petrol (gas) station.  Not near major tourist attractions on the  South Island of New Zealand.  Easy parking.
Building:  Odd modern architecture.  The ceiling is Chalet style, which is presumably why it's called "Alpine Ice" but otherwise it has a more modern look than most rinks.  There is a large entry area where people can line up but can't sit down.  Apparently this is so that they don't have to open until just before public skating starts.
Bathrooms:  Poor condition.
Price:  Public skate was really cheap.  (11.50 NZD = 7.73 USD)
Snack bar:  Food and alcohol for sale.
Lockers:  I think I saw some.

Overall, I'd say this is one you could skip visiting.
