I have seen the hockey romance novels! I haven't read any of them but they must be cheap and tawdry because our library loans them as ebooks. I'm always tempted but I really like historical romances more. Eloisa James ftw! (Not EL James - different author.)

I'm reading the Portland Storm series by Catherine Gayle right now. Typical modern romance with an NHL team as most of the male characters.
I do love historical romance. FS, have you read any Stephanie Laurens? I've read Eloisa and like her stuff too.

For these to have a shred of realism about them, first someone would have to tell hockey skaters that faster isn't actually better.

Now, now, play nice.
Christy - yes, I like Stephanie Laurens. Her "Bastion Club" series was really good, although I thought the final romance (the Spymaster's) was a little ordinary.
Grace Burrowes is another fav, but she brings out a new book (it seems) every month and they're sort of formulaic in terms of plot progression. Her Darius book is awesome - a (male) hooker with a heart of gold. ♥
There's a really nice (and clean) romance series called the "House of Oak." It hit all the right notes: time travel, alpha males, strong women and sweet romances. I was surprised that it was so "G-rated" but the lack of smut didn't take away anything from the plotlines.

Back OT: there are several FIGURE SKATING novels; I'm not sure if they're romances but the author is a figure skating fan.

I did not know these existed but I'm not surprised. Is it terrible that I want to check one out to see how terrible they are?

Those figure skating novels are very good! The author really pays attention to accuracy, and the plots are realistic. Jennifer Comeaux is the author - she has two 3-book series. You should read them in order to avoid spoilers in the storylines. The first three books are the Edge series, starting with 'Life on the Edge'.

Just got "Life on the Edge". I'll start reading it soon.
