Blade mounting issue?
« on: November 23, 2020, 11:52:46 AM »
Hey all!

I recently bought a new pair of boots and blades for the first time and have a question in regards to blade mounting.

At the bottom of my boot, I can see that there are nails that attach the heel to the boot. I put the blade on the boot just to see how it might look and noticed that one of the mounting holes goes over a nail. Is it ok to mount a screw over one of those nails? I plan to get my blades mounted at a pro shop but wanted to see if anyone has experienced this before.

You need to avoid the nails when you mount the blades.

That's a PITA with Riedell boots, however you don't need to use every hole in the sole plates when mounting blades. In new boots, the heel plate should have two screws in the adjustment slots, plus one more (permanent) screw installed after the blade position is established with trial skating. Your photo shows one of the permanent screw holes obstructed by a nail, so that means the other hole can be used for the screw.

FWIW, I complained to Riedell via one of the members here about this issue. The response was essentially "tough luck".

I'm sure that your pro shop has seen this before.

That must be the standard reply they teach marketing managers in Customer Service 101.  ;)
