Title: Music heavy in cello?
Post by: davincisop on August 25, 2015, 08:54:40 PM
Hi all!

A friend of mine asked me to help her find music for the upcoming season. Thing is, she REALLY wants a piece heavy in cello (from a soundtrack). I'm having trouble finding something that fits that criteria that I can also cut (since it's hard to cut continuous notes).

Any suggestions? I've sent a few her way but they had too much violin for her tastes.

Well, it's not soundtrack, but in compensation it is the best cello piece ever written.   May not be editable, but it's short enough it might be usable as is, depending on what your friend is skating.

and SEVEN! cellos, how much heavier can you get ;)

Otherwise, I have my thinking cap on.

Personally "5 secrets" or "The Cello Song" are one of my favorite pieces. Okay they are not soundtracks, but they could be. I skated to "Arwen's Vigil"  last season, but there is much more violin in there than the last two pieces.

How long does the piece need to be? There is also some really good pieces from the Hornblower series, but that is probably a bit of special taste, and would need to be cut the pieces are quite short

.

You would definitively sell it as a soundtrack!!! The original has been used in SOOOO many movies.

I do like Riley876's 2nd selection. Haunting.

Crouching Tiger

You mean

The movie was incredible, one of my favorites, and the music was gorgeous - but could you skate to it?

This has a bit more drama, but it's still too slow:

But, anyway, it's a great opportunity to wear a beautiful Chinese outfit, or play imperial assassin.

As a salute to the famous flying scenes, the skater must leave the ice in flight, and never return to earth.  :)

You are right. In the video, Angela does an excellent job of expressing the musical phrasing. Both with the melody section, and the percussion section.

I think the audio/video person/people did a great job too, of precisely syncing the sound with her, regardless of where she was in the rink. Hope it was that good for the audience and judges too.
