For me, I went to higher-level blades when I started doing spins and jumps.  I can't recall which USFSA/ISI level those fall in.  The all-purpose blade with minimal toe pick was good for learning 3-turns, mohawks, crossovers, etc. but the larger toe pick really helped me come to grips with one-foot spins and jumps.
