Title: 2011-2012 Adult Nationals
Post by: miraclegro on March 02, 2011, 10:34:55 PM
Perhaps i didn't see a post, or perhaps it hasn't been announced yet...but does anyone know where next year's AN will be held?

No word yet on 2012--it won't be decided until summer or fall.

We're lucky they have announced where it is in 2011.  They like to make us wait a long time for the announcement.  I don't think they're even accepting bids for 2012 yet.

Now that 2011 Adult Nationals is over, it is time to begin speculation for the 2012 event.

I have heard that clubs in the following cities may be preparing a bid for the event:

Colorado Springs
Chicago
Detroit
Pittsburgh

As always, it is just speculation and rumors.  We can expect a location to be announced in July or August.

I know one of those locatrions to NOT be rumor unless our club president gets over ruled by the skating council

I think Pittsburgh was going for 2013, not 2012.

I'm in Chicago and haven't heard anything about a Chicago bid, but I've been out of the loop with the clubs lately.

@techskater - REALLY!!!   ::>)  (Loves a juicy morsel of gossip...)

I have also heard the Pittsburgh and Chicago rumor too.  But I can tell you that I did talk to someone who is from Pittsburgh and his response to that is "news to me..."

Why isn't Lake Placid bidding?  Are they assuming that they're get it anyway since it IS every four years now...    Last I've heard was a couple of years ago and that they're strapped for money b/c the State of New York is limiting or even eliminating funding for the Olympics Center, but to my knowledge, the center is STILL open and operational.  That said, given the expense, I am likely NOT able to make Lake Placid if it's in 2012 anyway.  Chicago and Detroit is likely a GO though.  Don't know about Colorado Springs or Pittsburgh though.  (I didn't do research on those two cities for airfares and hotel cost.)

Meh, trying not to think too much ahead.  The last time I thought ahead for AN, I lost not one but TWO jobs within that same skating season and was UNEMPLOYED during the time I was competing (already paid for it, so no backing out!!!)  Just don't want to get my hopes up too high.  Anything can happen...  :-X  :-\

I'm not thinking about it, cause if I get my hopes up I'll probably be qualified to go, but unable to be cause I'll finally be in a new job...with no vacation time and working double shifts (sigh). At least I'll finally be getting a paycheck (but not doing any skating).

From what I've heard from the Adult Skating Commitee on Facebook:
"Bid packages will be available soon. Bid deadline is July and location will be announced in September."

I think the Adult Committee changed the time frames for the bids and announcements.  I hope it means earlier notification for the skaters.

Bid packages are now available on USFS for next year... I read them and see that they are hoping to announce dates and locations by July. Keeping fingers crossed!
FWIW... I'd like to see a East Coast club besides LP get AN!!

Great - I looked yesterday and they were still showing 2011 for the Adult events.  Glad it's being done earlier now.

AUGH!!!  Looked thru airfare for all four cities.  All but Detroit have reasonable airfares.  Detroit is WAAAY over what I want to spend airfare wise.  (And yes, same with LP too!!!  Too expensive!!!)  :o

So they should be looking at finalist bid cities in the next three weeks. Wondering who's bid.

The official bid document does say the location and dates were to be announced on July 1st, as MadMac linked.
I know the AN bid schedule was changed earlier this year to move up the dates.  Maybe it's a typo?

I think it was late August or early September last year when we found out, so I would be surprised if it was much earlier than that this year.  They will probably announce regionals for the following year before this upcoming regionals, so it feels like we are a little left out with only 8 months to mull over it instead of a year or more.

I was under the impression that the delay last year was due to lack of bids. According to techskater, this year there were three of them and I saw where the announcement date on the bid package did read July 1. Wonder what's going on here.

I believe it was just announced on USFSA.org.

"BENSENVILLE, ILL., SELECTED TO HOST 2012 U.S. ADULT FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS

(6/8/11) - U.S. Figure Skating announced today that the 2012 U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships, hosted by the Skating Council of Illinois, will be held April 10-14 at the Edge Ice Arenas in Bensenville, Ill.

The U.S. Adult Championships annually feature 400 skaters competing in more than 100 open events and eight championship events. The 2012 version will mark the 18th time the competition has been held.

Competitors are divided into five age groups (21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61+) and two tracks (masters and adults). Events are held in singles, pairs, ice dancing and interpretive. Skaters qualify for the championship and championship gold events by placing in the top four at one of three sectional championships, which will be held in March."

Bensenville did a nice job hosting ISI Synrcho Nationals this year, so I am looking forward to watching Adult Nationals there next year.

I hope that they have all the competitions on the rink that has spectator seating.  The other ice surface is larger, but it would be best if they only use it for practice, since there just isn't any way for a decent sized crowd to watch.

Now here's for me crossing my fingers that (1) I can pass my bronze FS test to qualify (ie, remain uninjured so that I can, in fact, practice) and (2) find the time and $$ to go to either Mids or ANs or possibly both.

I'm also hoping to pass my FS test!!!! AND get time off from work to go!!! My coach and I are driving so that will save us $$$ (it's about 14 hours from Delaware) plus, she has relatives there which saves on hotel.  I'm so excited I've been waiting for this for years!!!!  And Sectionals are close to us as well!!!! Woo-Hoo!!!!!

Did that rink also host the 2007 ISI Worlds?  Two sheets in one rink and then another across the street?  It was a nice set up.

It's only 6 hours away for me - so a definate possibility.  Bronze FS is passed.  It will just depend upon being able go get my flip and lutz back.

I am not sure about ISI Worlds, but this rink was the host for 2007 ANs.  The third rink (on John St) is down the block a little bit.

The year I went to AN, I got dead last.  I was just so happy to be there that I was almost crying the whole time before I skated.  Now I would like to be a little more competitive.

I would love to be able to get dead last.  I don't think I'll ever be able to pass the Bronze test.  I just don't think I have a third single jump in me :(

Good Luck!

My coach has told me I can take the test whenever I want, based on other bronze skaters in the area- but if the judges are actually judging the elements, and not pity passing me, I shouldn't pass.

I am going to start skating up locally though.

Yeah, my coach has gone to several test sessions and has seen the adult Bronze testers....and says I should do well.  Jumping is my strong point, spins are NOT.  I figured, nothing ventured, nothing gained so I'm in.  How many comps are you planning on doing this year?

How many comps are you planning on doing this year?

Just a few- only ones that are within an hours drive, so I think that is a max of 3-4 all year.  They are SO expensive, I don't think they are worth traveling for.  I'd rather take lessons.

Did anyone get the email from icenetwork that mentioned they would be showing "select on-demand coverage of the US Adult Championships"?  Does this mean they aren't going to post all the videos?  They always seem to inadvertantly skip a few events each year, but did anyone else notice this wording.  It said,

"We're also bringing you on-demand video from all U.S. regional championships, U.S. sectional championships and U.S. synchronized sectional championships, select on-demand coverage of the U.S. Adult Championships, feature skating programs, and much more!"

It's probably nothing, but I thought it was weird to use the word "select" right after using the word "all" to describe regionals, sectionals, etc...
