- Riedell 229 TS skates
- Teal soakers
- Purple hard guards (that are now too long for new skates... that's this week's project)
- towel
- gloves
- pair of trouser socks (plus a couple single mismatched socks since I have a habit of losing single socks)
- champion cord
- black sharpie (why, I don't know)

Very vintage.  I wish I could remember exactly what year my parents bought them for me - my best guess is 1982.  I skated on them through April or May of 1985, skating about 50 hours a year.  Then they went largely unused until I resumed skating last winter.  (I am guessing that I am skating on the oldest skates of anyone on the forum.  :) )

The boots are still in good shape, but I know they won't last forever.  I am dreading the time when wear out - skates of today are seem soooo much stiffer to me when I've poked and prodded at them in the skate shop while waiting for my skates to be sharpened.

I don't when Oberhamer went of business.  Does anybody know what year they folded?  A quick google search did not turn up an answer.

Me, I have a black transpack backpack with:

My Riedell Elite Royal 900 skates (2003 model I believe, and with almost four years on 'em), blades covered in black soakers with seatbelt-like material on the bottom
Folder for coach's notes and other materials (pen, blank paper, recent test sheets, step patterns, USFS MIF rulebook, latest program music CD)
Old, faithful translucent blue glitter hard guards clearly marked with my maiden name :P
Phillips head screwdriver
Lock for the rink's locker
Travel-size pack of facial tissue
Two matching pairs of gloves
Hard (rollerblading) wrist guard
Knee/Elbow pad (it's whatever I need it to be, when I need it at all)
Combo hip/knee pads I made from scratch to imitate those pricey Clear Clouds, fashioned from their patent filing drawings and 3/16" Akton gel padding material I bought at a fraction of the cost
Athletic tape and foam liner tape for it, just in case...

That's it!  That's enough.

I have a Zuca with the light blue denim insert, inside:

Jackson Classique skates - size 9, sadly these are white
One fluffy pastel blue ice halo
Pair of royal blue gloves
Pair of wristguards
Pair light blue soakers + towel (from skaterslanding)
Pair teal guards (replacing the pastel blue/white glitter ones that I left at the rink :'()
Pack of tissues (not blue)
Water bottle with an accordion on it... ;D
Rink card - currently LOADED with ice time money. Merry Christmas!
Spares of: hairties, skating socks and girly things.

That is it. After today's tumble I'm thinking of adding some foils of paracetamol or ibuprofen. Possibly some gin too. :o

My daughter is about to take up skating and she is eyeing off my Zuca. It's mine, all mine.   She can make do with the backpack the rink hands out.
Will do almost anything for pizza.

Ok I'll bite. I have a Dakine Ski Boot Bag with the following. I'm thinking I should start carrying a small notebook too to take notes right after sessions (since I never do it once I get home):

Loose Items:
  • Pair of Edea Skates
  • Pair of soakers
  • Pair of hard guards
  • Nalgene water bottle
  • 2 Microfiber cloths (one backup that always in my bag in case I forget to pack the main one)
  • 1 giant sharpie (for drawing on the ice)

Large Mesh Bag:
  • Soft foam knee pads
  • Snowboarding wrist guards (way more comfy than skateboarding wrist guards)
  • 2 knit hats
  • 1 ball cap
  • 1 pair of gloves
  • Huge bundle of thin nylon socks (half a dozen pair)

Plastic Card Carrying Case:
  • Coins & Cash
  • Public skating punch card (noon public skates by my office are half empty)
  • Skate Canada Card
  • Bandaids

Small Mesh Travel Pouch:
  • Kleenex packet
  • Blistex
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Pen & Sharpie
  • Tiny multi-tool with scissors, file and screw drivers
  • Spare laces
  • Spare pair of thin nylon socks (new - still in packaging)
  • iPod Shuffle & audio cable
  • iPhone 5 case (I only use a case for skating)
  • Single-use contact lenses (as a backup since I normally wear glasses)
  • Foam ear plugs (sometimes come in handy)
  • Small ziplock with bandaids, business cards and another copy of my Skate Canada card

I'm glad I saw this post because I made a few discoveries while taking inventory.

My bag is a black and white and pink Ju-Ju-Be diaper/tote bag that doesn't look anything like a diaper bag. Inside:

- Skates

- Purple terry soakers

- Pink glitter guards I offered to take off my daughter's hands because she got them as a gift and really wanted purple. I like pink but mostly just care a whole lot less.

- blue microfiber dollar store towel

- empty container of floss-picks for teeth (discovery #1, refilled!)

- expired rec card

- receipt for new rec card

- lip balm

- hand cream

- empty altoid tin

- one loose unused tissue

- two pairs of little girl socks (why, when they have their own zucas? I don't know.)

- one pair of big girl socks

- yoga pants

- jacket with gloves in pockets

- four CDs, two of each daughter's music. This is discovery #2 and I should probably let coach know I somehow went home yesterday with his discs and mine.

- One plastic jaw clip thingie attached to the bag handle

- Tums

I love this post hehe. :)

My bag is a big purse/tote type thing with some studs on the outside that my fiance's brother's girlfriend gave me for Christmas one year. It isn't quite right for me to wear in normal life, but i'm happy i can use it for my skates!

Anyway, here's what's inside!
- skates
- soakers
- 1-2 pairs of gloves
- pack of kleenex
- neon pink skate guards
- boot covers (were white but now a bit blue-tinged after a laundry round lol)
- small pouch with deodorant, bobbi pins/hair ties, lip balm, girl things
- leather pouch with change, freestyle punch card, public skate pass, and sometimes money lol

I have a Lowepro backpack, designed for photographic use, but the padding is great to protect the skates while on a bike ride and it has a waterproof cover in case of bad weather.... In short I haven't gotten around to buying transpack.

Inside main pocket:
  • skates-Sp-Teri KT2 with Mk Professional Blades
  • Tennis skirt
  • Leotard
  • Warm up pully
  • My "old lady" underwear, i.e. butt crash pads
  • Matching pair of Gloves
  • 2 soakers sets- one light pink bunny shaped and the other neon green
  • Hot pink guards
  • Overboot tights
  • Wallet with money, id cards, and skating cards (Fed. card, rink card, and club card)

Inside make-up bag:
  • Two sets of knee highs
  • Two bunga sleeves
  • Weighted Jump Rope
  • Two different weight therabands
  • Extra hair ties
  • Micro-fiber towel
  • Screw driver
  • Good luck and protection book- i.e. a gift from my mom
  • extra make up pads to put in skates when my arches are bothering me

Outside Bottle Pockets:
  • Hot pink Water Bottle
  • contact lenses and solutions
  • keys (office, home, and bike)
  • Ibuprofen
  • bandaids

Front outside pocket:
  • two copies of my music
  • Skating Journal and pen

This makes the backpack sound rather heavy......in winter there is a few other items added including ear warmers, long tights, ski cap and second pair of gloves to just to make sure I don't ride home with wet gloves on and my sweaty hair exposed to the elements.

Lol.  I wore One White and One Black glove on purpose.  It's great for knowing exactly where each hand is if you video yourself a lot.

I keep a screwdriver in my bag at all times.... mainly in case a screw on my blades comes loose, but it does come in handy when something on my bike (main mode of transportation to and from the rink) comes loose.

Volleyball elbow pads

Bill:  How do those volleyball elbow pads work for you?  I'm looking for elbow protection but don't like the armadillo-like pads offered for in-line skating.  Do you find that the volleyball pads offer adequate protection?

I like them, and wear them always. They are are WalMart cheapies purchased a few years back. (Which reminds me, the elastic is wearing out, so I need to get more.)

They fit under my sweatshirt, and are a little bulky, but not bad. If I bend my elbows, they will show through the sweatshirt material.

However they have saved my hide on too many occasions to remember. I remember a fast, bad fall a few years back where I hit the ice so hard that I skinned my elbow even through the pads...

I can't imagine how badly I would have been injured without the pads.

Jackson Freestyle skates with whatever blades were screwed on at the factory--Ultima something or other, I can never remember.

soakers

hard guards

microfiber towel

pair of spare laces

bunga pads

Flexmeter wrist guards

small notebook and pen

neck lanyard with either laminated dance patterns or Moves elements, depending on whether or not my dancing partner is available ( tip of the hat to Bill S)

a granola bar for apres skating; only bother with this if skating a session 1.5 hours or longer.  I'd include a chilled thermos containing a steadying G&T but it probably would go missing in action by the time I got off the ice.

I really like the Mcdavid hex cell elbow pads. They are much more flexible than volleyball pads. I use volleyball pads for my knees, mainly because I couldn't find the Mcdavid pads locally in XXL.  I found the elbow pads at Dicks Sporting Goods. I'm not sure of the model number and it isn't marked on my pads anywhere. I believe it is the 6515R.
